Do you know what sublime means? I’ve learned that it has a lot of definitions. I was familiar with the word before my recent research and I always associated it with unparalleled quality. It’s the final step in positive accolades that you can give to something. It’s more perfect than pristine, it manages more wonder than wonderful.

In Chemistry, sublime is a verb. When something moves from the solid to the vapor state, skipping the liquid state altogether, it has sublimed. Like when something moves from the solid to the liquid state, it has melted.

I find it hard to imagine that because there’s not too many examples of sublime in that context in everyday life. The most common is dry ice that sublimes at room temperature and under standard atmospheric pressure.

It’s the Dead of Winter, dear readers, dry ice is an apt visual as we continue the 2022 Interim Shorts. Following the introduction of the Needy in pre-ancient history, the time of the giants, then Mavis Turner in the early 1900s, we meet her grandson, Zacchaeus, who inherits her skill and her curse, the Enchanted Deck.

Max is up in February for the introduction of the most skilled hands on any side of the Mississippi. We’ll see you back here soon for the start of the exciting series, The Deft Hands of Zacchaeus. Stay warm dear readers.
