The Needy – 3 – The Birth of the Lightning God

The light of first creation is a powerful source of energy used to fuel some magical abilities that exist in the universe. This is a neutral source of energy, meaning it was not created by the AEther for the propagation of life in the universe, nor was it created by Past in its attempts to snuff out that life within the universe. It is a constant of the superstructure of the multiverse.

Manipulation of this light takes skill and even with practice, it is dangerous for a being of the universe to summon the light and wield it. The light of first creation has the potential to alter existence and an unskilled wielder of the power can inadvertently alter themselves in fatal ways, as is often the case.

When Jit summoned the light of first creation to impress his friends, he enacted the physical movements with his hands precisely as his mother had taught him, and he repeated the incantation in his mind without mispronunciation. But when he was done with his show, Jit failed to properly return the light to a place where it would not do harm.

As his friends made jokes at his expense and called him needy, his emotions exploded, and the lingering light of first creation that he summoned made the figurative literal.

The explosion was so powerful that it melted the sand to glass, and left his two closest friends clinging to life when the tatters of their bodies went flying through the air and shattered the glass on impact.

“We have to call the Guilding Light,” Angoon said. He had only one arm and his legs were missing. He extended his hand to his friend.

Inko was only half of himself, but he managed to take hold of his friend’s hand, and they used all of the magic left in their bodies to cry for help from the Guiding Light who could restore them. But what came was not the Guiding Light. Inko’s force and Angoon’s energy mixed with the light of first creation that still lingered in the area and a silver bolt of lightning exploded up from the ground to slap the sky. When the booming thunder settled, there was one whole giant where there had been two mangled ones.

“Where is Jit!” the giant yelled. “He tried to kill us, but he only made us stronger. Where is he!”

By this time, others had arrived and watched the spectacular scene from a distance. The water of the large lake was churning violently and all of the sand around it was shards of broken glass that glittered under the starlight. And the tallest giant that any of them had ever seen was mad as bolts of lightning shot up into the sky each time he yelled.

As the lightning raged, the Guiding Light appeared, levitating before the giant. The Light wore a robe of white and his head was ringed in a golden halo.

“You are an arcane being,” the Light said with a voice that was a chorus of many, “forged from the mysteries of the maker, first of your kind. Choose your name or one will be chosen for you.”

“Where is Jit!” the giant yelled and a bolt of lightning struck out from his open mouth.

The spectators, who cowered behind trees and rocks for cover from the swirling glass and debris that kicked up as the two beings of immense power clashed, were sure that the fearsome giant pulsing with electricity would strike the Guiding Light out of the sky with the bolt of lightning that issued from his mouth. But the halo on his head swelled in size and absorbed the bolt.

“You do not know what you are,” the Light said sympathetically. “You are just a child, two if I am sensing correctly, you can’t possibly understand the awesome powers at your disposal. For you are a veritable god of the lightning, it dances at your whim. I cannot hope to contain your destruction while I subdue you, I have summoned help.”

As he spoke, a portal of Wazad wove itself into existence and Wazad the Wonderful emerged. She was completely covered in golden fur and stood upright as she faced the giant.

“You spoke true of your predicament, illustrious one,” Wazad said in a robotic voice that issued from her universal translator. “I have never witnessed the birth of a being of arcane distinction, thank you for summoning me.”

“The abilities of Wazad are known throughout the universe, thank you for the assistance.”

Wazad was able to enter the mind of the giant and the raging energy around the area subsided as they spoke in the mental realm. Eventually, the giant decreased in size and fell into a deep sleep.

“He is pure power,” Wazad said to the Guiding Light. “He is all emotion. I fear for others on your planet when he gets hungry. But he is not bad. He is an accident. And the two boys that fused into his form are not the only victims. There was another, and something dark has been born into the universe.”
