INTRODUCTION to The Encyclopedia of the Known Universe
Take this for what it is, the complete reference guide to everything in the universe as it exists today. Despite the relativity of the word “today,” this guide is a comprehensive look at the breadth of the wonders of the universe that are observed in the far flung reaches of space. The PRL Limited Series “The True Start of Everything” is a companion to this Volume and details the actual start of the universe as we know it. The origin of existence, as well as the current Volume, is compiled from various sources which recount in trustworthy detail the ancient origins of life everywhere in the known universe.These details were gathered by history’s greatest minds in times of exile and scribbled onto forgotten manuscripts meticulously recovered by the historians and writers of this Volume. The Sheikh Bedreddin wrote of the origins of the universe while in exile; as did Nelson Mandela during his imprisonment. Amelia Earhart’s unknown diary was used, as well as the notes and poetry from the 30th year of Phyllis Wheatley. Jose Arcadio Segundo studied the works and notes of Melquiades in order to contribute to the encyclopedia. Works long buried and forgotten in the Library of Babel were also consulted with the help of the fine bookkeepers there. The Druinte Archive Directive, DAD, lent all materials about Druinte culture. The works of the widely respected Rhasdwiis historian and master storyteller, Phuen Wiir, were valuable resources for Rhasdwiis culture and myths. Pen Nuren, the decorated military leader and first captain of the Wiis Defense Ministry also provided stories of the Rhasdwiis. Though the Rhasdwiis do not have a direct poetic form equivalent in their language, they enjoy something very similar that was mastered by Kirk Quer, and his detailed accounts of the universe were also a valuable source of information. The Fhetat Records Departments 1 through 16 were also helpful in gathering information. The Bromeris Ultimate Library was extremely helpful and coordinated communication and facilitated the sharing of information on a universal scale. We are humbled by the kindness of these and so many others who contributed to this first volume of The Encyclopedia of the Known Universe.
This encyclopedia strives to be comprehensive, but frankly that is a losing game; the universe is expansive and we are discovering new things everyday. What we present here was chosen by the PRL researchers and editors with the goal of comparing planetary cultures. It is a course in interplanetary anthropology with a focus on dominant, sentient, and generally humanoid populations.
