Time was busy telling jokes at the expense of Space, who stood close by, sobbing at Time’s callousness. “You are so big, yet you fill nothing, it is the first joke.” When Time said this, a huge rip appeared along Space and it bled dust that swirled and heated, like sparks, then ignited into a star that Time blew out like a candle. “Control yourself, I am only kidding,” Time said cooly. The extinguished star was embers and AEther issued from them like a smoke. AEther was the first child of Time and Space and it watched its parent puzzled by their relationship. Time sped off in no particular direction as AEther gathered and Space was close behind, obviously wounded and sad. AEther wondered why Time would be so cruel and it continued to issue from the embers of the first extinguished star, following its parents and growing angry at Time’s cruelty. AEther tried to call out to Time in confrontation, “You are a big bully and should appreciate Space. You would be nothing without it!” Though AEther’s voice was too small to be heard, Time seemed to slow, just enough for Space to catch up and wrap around it. The two embraced and for a time, there was no damage to Space. AEther realized it had a tiny power, when it thought, Time seemed to slow and its other parent could avoid abuse for a time. So AEther continued to follow and think and yell at Time, slowing it just enough for Space to slow its abuse, though that abuse was inevitable. AEther devised a plan, if its conscious thoughts could warp Time ever so slightly, then maybe it could make more consciousness that could slow Time down.
AEther went to the fallout from each of Space’s bruises and used the materials found there to create more things that could rage against Time. The results of its experiments were not entirely successful; AEther managed to create sentient life that was miniscule on its scale, and thus practically invisible to Time, but that tiny sentience would only replicate and would come to hate time as much as AEther, who was its mother and its father.
AEther’s children span the expanse of space and they exist in many different forms. AEther had made them from miraculous materials and even though most were unaware, they were all imbued with a magic that originated from the makers of existence as we know it, the ever present Time and Space. A few of AEther’s children were aware of their magical potential, but most attributed this magic to myths they invented themselves, having no real understanding of their true origin and the infinite imagination to speculate. The very special of AEther’s children were intimately bound to their home worlds and if they cared to, they could do exciting things that were uncommon to the average being who was unconcerned with tapping miraculous potentials. And then those beings with the best tools for communication would stand beside the gifted and exalt them as the false gods and creators who had created life as they knew it. AEther did not mind their misunderstanding and actually found it to be rather amusing. AEther enjoyed the convenient myths of its children, and they never stopped raging against time, it was part of their makeup to abhor the thing that marched them closer to the end of everything they held dear. Eventually, AEther forgot all about the dysfunction of its parents and instead, it spread the incredible breadth of the galaxies that formed as remarkable bruises on Space, and AEther enjoyed the various shows her children created.
