One of my favorite drinking games is quarters. I’m not great at it, but I love practicing. It reminds me of the types of games I enjoyed as a kid, like pogs or marbles and jacks, the very old school version of pogs. I also had a college roommate who was pretty good and we used to practice, just the two of us, with shot glasses and bottles of whiskey. It’s been years since I played, but there’s a holiday right around the corner, so maybe I’ll get the chance to dust off my skills and bounce some quarters into some shot glasses.

I wonder if games like marbles and jacks still exist? I know kids are still into Pokemon and Magic cards, but I don’t think they actually play them, it’s more of an investment. The whole thing reminds me of the comic book speculation market in the 90’s, it’s not gonna end well for the majority of people collecting. But, honestly, that’s what they get for forsaking the game for money.

Sorry for holding you up, dear readers. The best serial fiction on the internet continues and dice have been rolled. Enjoy the issue and come back soon for more!

Before Ariel reaps the reward of her successful roll, she tries to reason with Jophiel. But the woman isn’t receptive to words. She seems very ready to use her flaming sword, though.

The Divine Essence:  “I sent my guard away because I even though you’re strange as fuck, something about you feels familiar. I don’t want to fight you, I don’t have a flaming weapon to match what you showed up with here today. Obviously you’re angry about something, but I guarantee you that I am not the cause of your problems. Maybe I can help you find a solution. What is not helpful, is stepping to me like you are right now.”

Lolof is happy to follow Tracia in the wake of the yumbo defeat at the Earther swamp. Apparently they love each other and she is a powerful leader of the mmoatia, so she deserves his confidence. But maybe Lolof wants to be more active in the narrative unfolding around him. And, Pultine is pissed off this issue.

Swamp Bitches (Pultine’s Greatest Hits): “‘I wish death on all of you bitches!’ Pultine screamed and her words echoed up through the trees of the grove. Her wings flapped furiously at her back as she hovered over the large pink lily petals that had been her seat for the gathering of the Supremes following the defeat of the yumboes at the Earther swamp.”

I hate to spoil it, but Zazel got the number she needed, and that can’t be good for Tracia. Will Zazel do it? Will she snap Tracia’s neck like Agiel keeps saying she will? Keep reading to find out.

Vistas of Endla: “You hear that, guard? My sister is very good at snapping necks and disemboweling, just as good as she is at escaping being locked up. So I hope you’re ready to have your guts ripped out while we slip out of this place. Oh my, do you guys smell that? Is that shit? Are you keeping us in a tunnel of shit! Zazel, kill these people before I do.”

We’re back in the Metion flashback this issue as Dae’s father meets a man with a nice sounding voice at a party. He seems smart, but Metion is the only one interested in what he’s saying

The Trials of Daedalus: “‘Fifty cent sodas in the hood, they going crazy,’ Metion says and a few others join him to finish the Ghostface lyric. ‘Dead meat placed on the shelves, we eat cold cuts, fast from the hog y’all and grow up!’”

It’s Max’s last turn and the shuffle. It’s kind of a love story, just like the Ghostface song that inspired it. But it’s one sided love, or just admiration. You be the judge.

Shuffle: “Ilse is beautiful because of the angle of her nose, the point it comes to elegantly on her face that is miraculously proportionate. If you were to kiss her, tilt her head to the left with the fingers of your left hand sliding through her hair to nestle her head while your lips move to meet, you will see her left eye closed and dreaming of love to take her and it is assuredly the same on the right, an eye locked down in anticipation.”

The old woman is Lucille Blackmon and she is visited by very old friends, Fo and Mog. They definitely don’t look their age, and apparently the old woman doesn’t have to either, but she has other things in her mind.

Before the Darkness: “They sat at the woman’s feet on her porch where she rocked slowly and steadily in her chair. Fo and Mog had the appearance of healthy and strong young men in her twenties, though they’d both known the old woman since she was a little girl, and they had lived at least three hundred years before she was even born.”
