Parallel Principle #5 : You don’t always have to be the center of attention, just sometimes.
: :
In new places, in situations where you encounter new people, it’s important to know when to talk and when to listen. There are times when you should be the center of attention and bask in the admiration of your new acquaintances, but there are also times when you should be listening and soaking in the facts of those around you. You must get to know people in order to determine if there is potential for a meaningful friendship, so don’t dominate the conversation when you should be listening.

Issue 6 is only seven days away. We hope to see you then.

The day is finally here! Thursday comes face to face with Sunday, and all the other days, as they gather to welcome him to their council of people ready to end the world.
The Black Man Who Was Thursday: “The helicopter flew for a while and Thursday couldn’t be sure how he felt about everything, though he appreciated the change of clothes that was provided for him and he felt very spiffy in the sharp suit and tie. He felt anticipation more than anything. What would Sunday look like now? Was he Kurt Graham, or had he somehow resurrected the body of Marlo Charles?”

Coffey is wary of her new environment. Sure, she has feathery wings and apparently has the ability to change the size of her body, but why now? Where was the magic when she was a slave on the plantation?
The Divine Essence: “But as nice and welcoming as everyone was, as opulent and beautiful as her new environment proved to be, as awe inspiring as it was to experience life in this new form she took that resembled the Umbatia complete with wings that were intuitive to use, she couldn’t exactly trust her new situation. ”

Wes’s sister, Ruby, dropped a bomb on her father last time, but that’s just the beginning. The heart-warming conversation continues, and Uncle Thomas gets an unexpected phone call.
Come Close: “‘Are you pregnant?’ my father asked my sister and the way he asked it suggested that he was just looking for something to say because we had all been watching him and waiting for him to say something. My sister was obviously not pregnant, though to be fair, she could have been in the very early days of a pregnancy before it showed in her belly.”

What is the devil? Is it the idea of unbridled evil in the form of a being with intentions of spreading evil throughout existence? Whatever it is, Lincoln gets a lesson in perspective and he realizes that a devil to some isn’t the devil to everyone.
Sun of the Morning: “I thought I was doing right by my babies. Ever since my grandmama said what she said, all I ever tried to do was protect my babies from the evil that was after them. My granddaddy saw it from up in heaven, said he saw Lucifer himself playing the fiddle around the unformed souls that would become my babies.”

The Shuffle keeps on shuffling. Max presents a story in dialogue with all the highs and lows of a romance turning sour, and then maybe sweet again.
Shuffle: “You’re the only thing I care about. Can’t you see that I have no life without you? I don’t want anything if you’re not with me. I’ll die without you. Just the thought of life without you is killing me. Please.”

Max moves into the second phase of his conversation with Tamarvan Barnes. In phase two, it’s time for an education, and even Max is getting schooled.
A Misguided Solution: “The longer I sat with Barnes, the more I found myself liking him. I didn’t want to like him, what he did was horrible and he deserves to rot forever, but he is an interesting person to talk to.”
