Miriro was in pure ecstasy. Her body had never felt so powerful and the energies surging through her felt like warmth and eternity coursing through her every cell. The sickly glow of the first quarter moon bathed her and everything in the clearing even though the sun was rising. Miriro was beautiful in the center of the gathered witches who sparkled and glowed with the magic that filled them all.
“She has done it!”
“Miriro is the most powerful witch in history!”
“All hail Miriro!”
Cheers went up from the clearing and then they chanted her name as she began to levitate above them all.
“I hear the exaltations of Tsukuyomi Otoko, of Máni, of Bendis,” Miriro shouted as she looked around at the gathering. “They praise us and tell us to open our hearts and minds to them so that we can be completely filled with their power. The deities of the moon have embraced us! This Witch Moon has demonstrated our worthiness to wield the vast, arcane powers of the moon. We have finally made the moon proud of us.”
The gathered witches cheer and celebrate.
“The call has been sent out to every human who wields moon magic and the assembly of witches has begun. Once enough of us have gathered, Tsukuyomi Otoko, Máni, and Bendis will be able to appear before us to make us all deities who can live on the moon!”
The witches cheer at Miriro’s words.
“We are powerful! We are worthy of the gifts of the moon! We will no longer be denied! We will not bow to inferior deities who envy our power! We will not squander the powers and we will remake the Earth!”
The woods where Miriro presided in the clearing was full of people and with each passing second, more and more people arrived. There were empty police cars all along the road next to the woods. The doors were open and the lights on the hood swirled noiselessly. Most of the police were dragged into the woods kicking and screaming as people imbued with the sickly green energy ripped them apart.
Miriro couldn’t see this carnage firsthand, but she could access the sight of every witch soaking in the green energy, and she could feel their murderous glee. It was all so delightful.
It was so good, that Miriro ignored the pain radiating from the base of her skull and the dull moans in the back of her mind. That must be the price she was forced to pay for the pure ecstasy that flowed through her. The pain won’t last long, she thought to herself.
