All sentient life is connected. The appendages may be different, we may eat different things, and live in different solar systems, but at the end of the day, we’re all one big family.
It’s time to explore the branches of the universal family tree, and today, we present:
140
– Issue 3 – The Ascendant Today
The 140 monitor Earth from Pluto because the Quinspace beings of Earth mostly know the Ascendant as hostile enemies. This is thanks mostly to the being known as Anansi who had done battle with the early Ascendant and survived to modern day because his essence was many beings compressed into his body. Anansi warned all Quinspace beings who would listen about the horned creatures from the stiff world who were working to up end the natural laws of the universe and would surely cause irreparable damage if left unchecked. Many of the beings of Quinspace Earth who were not of Anansi descent took it as an elaborate prank by a supreme trickster, or they let on as such while keeping a suspicious eye out for the stiff world beings with the horns who moved through the Quinspace as they did.
The 140 managed alliances with some beings, notably the race of rhino-type beings who manifested with the head of a rhinoceros with it’s distinct horn, and sometimes with its body, but not exclusively. The rhino-type were generally peaceful creatures who listened to the Ascendant and learned their history. The Ascendant gave them a greater understanding of their place in the universe and they learned to create functional symbiotic relationships with beings of A-space that did not involve the complex manipulation that beings like Anansi utilized to attain the nourishing attention that they coveted. The 140 hoped to use that influence, and the powers that beings of the Quinspace could bestow upon A-space beings, to achieve the Par-Cell Recommendation. The Recommendation would improve life for everything in the universe and though the rhino-type Quinspace beings were unaware of their role in the complex schemes of the Ascendant, they played a central role all across the universe, and Earth specifically.
The 140 always have seven delegates on Quinspace Earth monitoring the planet and it’s relevant players, and intervening where necessary.
When Kevin was at the library after his presentation about his relative who worked closely with Black Lives Matter, he felt compelled to stand in the empty room, surrounded by the history of his peers and their notable family members. It was as though something was whispering in his ear, telling him that the world was a huge place that he would be lucky to explore as those people had. The whisper told him to converse with them and Kevin made them and he talked with them, and though his creations with his preternatural ability usually parroted his own consciousness back at him, that time, each of his creations were possessed by a member of the 140 who inspired him to set out on his journey to experience real life.
When Ivan was shot at his apartment complex, a member of the 140 was there, and she whispered into the ear of the shooter to tip his rage over the edge. Ivan needed the danger to realize his extraordinary potential and when he did, it activated the extraordinary abilities of another man whose birthright had given him access to the combined powers they both had claim to. His name was Clay and both he and Ivan were the unknowing inheritors of the magic of Koyu and Anes, Quinspace beings who had combined their powers and hid them in A-space at a time of great distress. The 140 were aware of this power and the delegates made sure that Ivan and Clay realized their potential, no matter the machinations of Koyu and Anes.
