TO TOP

All sentient life is connected. The appendages may be different, we may eat different things, and live in different solar systems, but at the end of the day, we’re all one big family.

It’s time to explore the branches of the universal family tree, and today, we present:

Druinte Social Society (Series 2)

from The God Tests – Issue 4 – Early God

…playing with eris physical attributes has unlocked mental sensations that tickle the complex synaptic structure that is [God’s] brain along the back of eris head and neck. It’s an awesome feeling, the activation of a mental process long dormant that truly set God apart from eris peers. E developed the ability to fully utilize the structures of the Druinte brain that long ago developed a sense that was like an intense and vivid form of intuition. This ability that was vital to ancient Druintes who were nomads in the thick Druinte forest and were always on the run from predatory spider-like creatures that were stealth and hard to see with the eyes. Like eris ancient ancestors, God could not only sense and feel the emotions of things in eris surroundings using an impeccable sense of smell and taste to discern the chemicals and pheromones in the air, in eris dreams e could also anticipate the actions of fauna in the area based on a nuanced reading of the chemical data in the air. It was a complex mental function that gave the primitive Druintes the appearance of being mind readers who collectively were able to avoid their very deadly pack predators, but the ability is a testament to neurology that has since fallen dormant in the species that has evolved over millennia.

– Issue 9 – The Governors

Daecoo was born in the wilderness of Druont. E is an ancestor of early Druintes, or durine, who never lived in or around the city of Triusia that was one of the earliest settlements for enlightened durine. The continent that all durine occupy does not have a name, but it is safe to call the entire continent Triusia because there are no other significant settlements since the city of Changuzi was disbanded. Daecoo is the ancestor of an ancient line of durine who embraced the wilds of the continent and lived in the wilderness that most durine believed was inhospitable for their kind. It was difficult to survive in the wild, but Daecoo’s ancestors became like wild versions of the durine race and it is believed that most of them eventually left the wilderness and joined the city of Changuzi that was welcoming, though it is impossible to know for sure if durine still occupy the wild that the civilized avoid at all costs.

Daecoo and others of the inhabitants of Changuzi who could trace their lineage back to wild durine who had joined the city over the years, retained the ancient ability to process complex chemical information in the air to make predictions about the movement of other fauna that might be a danger, as well as other durine. Daecoo’s ability is strong and many in eris community viewed erim as a soothsayer. E could sense violent storms that raged off the coast of Changuzi, and e could even offer advise on scientific endeavors about which materials were best for the intended result. Many lost faith in erim when e failed to alert the social population of their integration into mainstream society, but e had sensed that something dramatic eas brewing. E was prevented from spreading the word because e was a secret governor, and after consultation with the other secret governors, they decided that it was best not to alarm their population. The governors decided that there was little they could do by way of resistance and they hoped that their ultimate goal of changing the mainstream population would be successful. They had done many things over the years to achieve this goal; there were already social Druintes who had made their way into prominent positions of mainstream society that were changing minds; and the secret governors could only hope that their clandestine work would continue to bear fruit.

Since the integration, Daecoo has been living at the Hall of Orphans where e was thankfully exempt from participation in the athletic period because of eris advanced age. E was assigned to the service of Falstraq 15 who was the Administrator of Orphan Activities and Falstraq was ecstatic to have erim. Falstraq was not aware that Daecoo was one of eris governors who had influenced eris decision to integrate into mainstream society; no social Druintes who was not a governor was aware that the governors even existed. The governors had formed spontaneously over the long history of Changuzi and they operated in secret because they were uncomfortable with the idea of Changuzi having leaders in the first place. The social Druintes liked the idea of equality and they were generally too respectful to allow themselves to be elevated or singled out by their peers. But the secret governors had formed, largely chosen by the respect that others had for them and the influence they unwillingly exerted over others who trusted them and their advice.

Falstraq appreciated Daecoo’s wisdom and e served as a sort of elevated secretary who did mundane things for Falstraq, like organizing eris calendar, but was also present for meetings that Falstraq took and offered eris advice when the two were able to converse alone. The majority of the governors had been assigned work at the Hall of Biological Sciences and lived in the community of Biological Sciences because most had been doctors or healers of some kind in Changuzi, but they had all hoped that Daecoo could work closely with Falstraq and they manufactured research for Daecoo that the MDDS would view as relevant and an asset to Falstraq. Daecoo would be the governors eyes inside of the MDDS, despite eris objections. E felt that e had lost the confidence of eris peers before the integration and e wondered if e was worthy of continued service as a governor, but the others knew that Falstraq would gladly accept Daecoo’s assistance.

But Daecoo doubts erimself everyday, even though e enjoys the life that e has at the Hall of Orphans. E is galvanized to make real change to eris society and e is more dedicated than ever to ensuring that the goals of the governors were attained because it would be good for every Druinte on the planet.

Daecoo had started to acquaint Falstraq with the ways of the secret governors, with the eventual goal of inducting erim into their ranks. E had taught Falstraq the secret greeting of the governors, though Daecoo had yet to explain it as such.

“It is what we all need,” e said to Falstraq when they met at the start of their days together.

“One another,” Falstraq had learned to call in response and e was happy to say it because Daecoo had described it as an ancient social greeting that had long fallen out fashion; Falstraq loved honoring the history of eris people.

After their greeting, the two would sit across from one another in Falstraq’s office while Daecoo briefed Falstraq on the day’s schedule.
