The PRL Event: Darker Resurrection 14

Wendy arrives at her home and everyone inside of her car; who include Alia, Yuri, and the winged John; are very relieved to get out, including the spirits of her great uncle, and that of Stephanie, the deceased sister of Aile. Vita pulls into Wendy’s driveway as well and she and Gertrude get out and rush to the group.

“There was a weird voice!” Vita says, “some lady and she was not nice. What is going on? What are we doing here? I can’t shoot ghosts!”

Gertrude puts a hand on Vita’s shoulder, hoping to calm her.

“It’s fine,” Alia says, “we don’t have any ghosts to shoot. We just need to talk to Eakran to find out if he knows about the soul John is looking for.”

“What does that mean?” Gertrude asks.

“Do you all know this woman?” John asks, very annoyed and hoping to move things along. Everyone around them nods and eyes John with suspicion. “If you know her, then you know what she is capable of. Nothing should be hard to believe people, can we move this along? You mortal beings have a strange smell or maybe it’s a taste, I don’t know but it’s in my mouth and it’s unpleasant.”

Alia frowns and grabs John by the ear. He yells as she leads him away from the group and when they are out of earshot, Alia turns and glares at him.

“What the hell are you doing? You understand that no one here understands what’s going on and you haven’t done a very good job of explaining it. Give us a break man, seriously.” She slaps his head like an annoyed big sister and John startles, then looks at her like he is wounded. “Stop talking about how you’re not human, try to fit in please. This is already stressful enough without you making it very clear that you don’t belong here.”

“Fine, but this sense of smell is driving me mad.”

Whining is his nature. It is all he has ever heard from mortal beings hoping to avoid their fate.

“That voice again,” Alia says, though when she looks to the group, they don’t seem to have heard it.

“If you found a body and joined me, you would know!”

“Who is that?” Alia asks and she grabs John’s face and stares into his eyes sternly.

“It’s the voice, I told you.”

“What voice?!” Alia asks.

“I’m the body, she’s the voice,” John says. “It’s not easy to explain, but any disembodied voice that has no explanation and is not your own inner dialogue, that’s her. Can we focus?”

“Fine,” Alia shakes her head as she returns to the group. “You all hang back a little while I talk with Eakran.”

“Do you have to go in person?” Wendy asks.

“It’ll be easier to see that he’s being honest with me. Gertrude will go with me,” Alia smiles at Gertrude who nods.

“Can you take your brother with you?” Wendy asks and she looks at John with disdain. Everyone is looking at him that way.

“You should work with him to see if there’s any other way to find the resurrected spirit.”

“That makes sense,” Wendy says.

“What about me?” Vita asks.

“Help Wendy any way you can,” Alia says. “If there’s any sign of trouble, get in touch.”
