Time to Read:

2–3 minutes

Hello again and welcome to Issue 2 of the Parallel Serials, where you can read new episodes each week. It’s the summertime, all the good TV shows are done until the fall, everyone’s on vacation trying to forget the stress of the work week. What better way to fill the time off than with a story? We’ve got six, and even though they’re just getting started, there’s still a lot to get lost in.

This week:

The man proves that he doesn’t have to make all of his friends. Well he does, but he doesn’t, it all depends on your reading of ‘make’. In this week’s It Exists, it’s the man and his real friend, Ivan, who has a story all his own.

It Exists Issue 2 (Amazing Elroy, The Magician Bk. 0): “Ivan and the man had worked on a research project for the local library…Ivan gave a presentation…and he told everyone about his grandfather, Don Luis Manuel Santana Nieto, who supposedly talked to the spirit of the Earth and was asked to be its guardian.”

This week’s One-Shot is from Made in America. Meet Nebuchad, a second-generation Iranian American who loves to party, and to be the king in his domain. But as we all know, all good things come to an end.

Made in America (Nebuchad One-Shot): “Neb likes to be in a big room with hundreds of people, lights off with the swirl of LEDs and glow sticks illuminating the dark, bodies roiling like a body of water, controlled by the steady, pulsating rhythm and the sharp reprise of the synth…and when he is there, he is king.”

Rebel Max heads back to Ladoga, NC and this week, meet one of the bravest, or craziest, people he knows.

Selection from Rebel Max’s Journal (Vol. 1): He Dreamed a Dream He Could Not Remember: “Flipped four times; came around the turn, damn car just flipped. Knocked my brain loose, wasn’t supposed to wake up. But here I am, still doing it.”

This week’s Legacy Series continues Emma (or The Artist). Emma likes to live life and then she creates art. This week, Emma lives a little.

Emma (or The Artist) I (PRL Legacy Series): “Emma had completely forgotten that today was the day when all the trucks from upstate came charging over the bridges and through the city, on to wherever this year’s migration would take them.”

Wesley Livingston gives you another reason why he likes music, and another playlist.

Let the Beat Build (Part 2 of 4: Ambiance): “Even though I had only a vague idea of who Billie Holiday was at the time, by the time we left Delray Beach, her voice had become the definition of the city; her slow, haunting style that gets parsed out in ebbs and flows just like the ocean. It was perfect mood music, solemn and evocative…”

And the experiment continues. Read the next installment of Stone Hand!

Stone Hand (leaders and Leadership): “…even those sound enough/ rip parts from themselves in hopes/ that he can be near them…”
