Issue 10, Vol. II – November 16, 2016

Time to Read:

4–6 minutes

There you are. Thanks for joining us. Pull up a chair, relax. We’ve got some stories to share and you should be plenty comfortable for this. As we make our way to the end, we will do some catch up with Rebel Max’s VIV is Real. Each issue, including this one, will include 2 issues from Max’s epic quest to find the elusive and mythical VIV. Go back to Issue 6 if you need to catch up, or start at Issue 1 if you’re so inclined.

I was watching John Oliver’s show from the weekend and he echoed a sentiment that I have posted about on my social media: 2016 has been a piece of trash year. I’m glad it’s not just me. Just ask the state of North Carolina that used to be famous for Michael Jordan and college basketball; now it’s synonymous with bathroom laws, boycotts, police shootings, and wildfires. I love my home state, I still think it’s the best in the nation, but the voters of the state really need to come out in force in 2018 or else things will continue to look bad. I think the governor’s race is a sign that NC is more purple than the presidential race showed. Heck, pretty soon they’ll be legalizing marijuana (finger’s crossed). But what am I going on about? I don’t live there anymore.

Enjoy the issue folks. And come back very soon for the last 2 issues of Vol. II.

Cousins and Maria hatch a plan to get to the bottom of Eakran’s secrets. Here’s hoping it works out for them.

Made in America (Series 1): “Maria does not love the IBF basement, but she doesn’t hate it either. She has experienced a sense of calm or completion since her arrival, as though the urgency that had brought her all the way to the secret facility had melted away. It was true that she had received a lot of reassurance that her childhood memories were not delusions or hallucinations and that is a relief, but there is something else. She feels that she is where she is supposed to be. If the Alia lady is right, then Maria would do good at the IBF, and she could give Dr. Cousins some peace of mind that his boss and coworkers wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the patients who trusted their care. Maria doesn’t really understand Cousins’s alarm; Moss seems like a nice lady, but Cousins knows her much better than Maria does.”

Kevin is an automaton. He has shirked emotions and traded them for a steely resolve that he uses to save lives. But Anish is worried and their missions are starting to veer in a disturbing direction.

The Magician (Amazing Elroy, The Magician Bk. 1): “Kevin sits on the bed in his sterile white room for hours without interruption as he combs through the information from the colonel. The potential riot in CA is being stoked by a loose association of individuals outraged by election results and though the initial protest was designed to be peaceful, there are those who want to break things and disrupt the peace. For some reason Kevin is heartened by the diverse racial makeup of the group that includes blacks, whites, hispanics, and even muslim participants at the organizational level. It makes him hopeful about the future of the country that so many different types of people could come together to fight against perceived injustice. But a movement that encourages, or at the very least fails to discourage violence, is obviously wrong and ineffectual.”

Ivan was shot and now he’s shooting someone else? Does the cycle of violence ever end? It would seem that it doesn’t.

Old Man Young and the Bronx Avenger: “There is no time to panic. Ivan shoots a man dead at his apartment building and he and Sonny watch him take his last breath. It isn’t long before police sirens are heard ringing through the night and Sonny can’t help himself but panic. He taps Ivan on the shoulder.”

Can anyone actually love this kid? I bet his affections are one sided. And if they’re not, I bet he does something shitty.

The Black Side of Paradise: “When Aldous first saw the woman named Beatriz who would seize his heart and affections, he was cursing at the actors of the black box theater for leaving so much garbage. He was lost in the work of cleaning when he heard her voice.”

Get ready for a double whammy! Two issues for the price of one. The Rebel with a cause finds himself in the mountains on his quest to prove once and for all that…

V.I.V is Real Part 7 and Part 8: “Tracking down a specific issue of TAOT is difficult. There are no archives and there is no website to access. The issue about the incident at Kid Zone was a tangent that I was willing to take because I wanted to know how trustworthy Mr. Baucom really was. Of course he would defend his program against slander, but I had come to trust VIV in her assessment of the Ladoga community. There was definitely exploitation of athletic children in the town, one need only check the bank account of booster clubs across the state to see that someone other than the players was making a lot of money from Friday night football games, but I wondered if a man like Mr Baucom, who seemed to care very much about the fate of his players, had been implicated in the story.”
