Odomakama Owuo learned that Death Magic requires sacrifice, one that he does not have to pay. Owuo is the only being of the Fonlands and Prime 5 who wields Death Magic at no cost because he has given so much to Death that he bears the name and is its living embodiment. Owuo both is and isn’t Death. Death is present even in the absence of Owuo, but where Owuo walks, so does Death.
Deads do not pay to use Death Magic, and it is the only arcana that the deceased can wield.
Many of the rituals of Death Magic require a living Death Magic user to offer the last drop of blood from a sacrifice, and this is most expediently achieved by burning a sacrifice and presenting its bones. There are some crafts of Death Magic that do not require the death of a sacrifice, but many of those require the prolonged torture of a willing participant.
Death Magic is purple, and any effects produced by Death Magic craft, like casting portals, will have a purple hue. It is said that Owuo only uses Death Magic for special occasions to avoid conflict with the Vodun, and he instead wields a modified version of Lêgba’s black magic in his everyday affairs.
It is possible to reanimate bodies with Death Magic, but the result is a zombie and not the true resurrection of the being reanimated. There is extensive debate if Death Magic is able to achieve true resurrection, and no story of true resurrection has ever been verified.
It is possible to instantly kill with Death Magic and despite the cost of a sacrifice, users can gain favor with Death Magic by sending others to Death, so that they are sometimes able to use spells to kill even if they cannot offer a sacrifice in the moment.
It is possible to heal the living with Death Magic, but that is only achieved by robbing something younger than the user of its vitality.
It is possible to fly with Death Magic, but a witch must offer a personal sacrifice, a piece of their own flesh the length of which is not smaller than an eighth of the length of the appendage they use to cast spells.
It is possible to project blasts of energy with Death Magic, but a user must establish a store of kinetic Death energy in many myriad of ways.
Spirit Energy Manipulation requires the sacrifice of a soul, or dead. If the soul is a willing participant, then the cost to wield that magic is paid by the soul. If the soul is an unwilling participant, then the user must usually make a sacrifice to seize control of a spirit. A soul can be completely dissipated through Spirit Energy Manipulation and this is a final death that cannot be reversed.
