All magic has a cost and for a wielder of Death Magic, the cost is in the name.
Death Magic: “Odomakama Owuo learned that Death Magic requires sacrifice, one that he does not have to pay. Owuo is the only being of the Fonlands and Prime 5 who wields Death Magic at no cost because he has given so much to Death that he bears the name and is its living embodiment.”

Lêgba and Owuo enact their plan to preserve Deads’ Town. It sucks to have your head chopped off, even for the walking death.
Deads’ Town: “Indeed, friend, it is an intoxicating mix,” Legba said as they left Deads’ Town and emerged on the Disc of Xêvisoso, in his arbitration room where the Vodun met to discuss important matters. “Should I chop your head clean off? Holding it in my hands will be very dramatic.”

I have to say, it was a delight to feature in this story. And I’ve since opened my mind more to explanations for things that are outside the bounds of what I previously considered possible.
Dialogues with the Witch: “I’m sorry,” Roy said. I could tell that while he was enjoying the conversation with the woman, he didn’t really believe a word she said. “But do you really believe all of this is real? I mean demons, weres, vampires, incidental witches? I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but while this is all very entertaining to listen to, I can’t believe that any of it is real. Not without seeing it for myself.”
