It has been established that the deads of Deads’ Town are randomly selected from the pool of souls of the beings who perish in universe Prime 5 and the Fonlands who are not instantly pulled to the space beyond.

In order to populate Deads’ Town, Owuo established the Wednesday rule. He used his vast powers to identify the souls of the recently deceased on a day that coincides to Wednesday to beings of Prime 5 and the Fonlands who are aware of the day, and he randomly transported the recently deceased to an artificial space that was only accessible by Owuo on Lêgba’s Disc. He did this seldomly, but regularly for long enough that Deads’ Town has upwards of a thousand occupants in the humbly constructed homes in the grassy hills that swirl with thick clouds of Essence blue mist in the perpetual night.

Owuo is an Fonlander of great power, and he became this way because of his extensive study of the arcane properties of the souls that resulted when he killed the physical bodies of things. These souls had always fascinated him and he was not able to cause physical pain to them as easily as he could a body. Owuo wondered why souls even existed, what could possibly be the point of preserving a consciousness, a personality, a set of memories, beyond the body that it piloted? Owuo had always viewed beings of lesser power than the Vodun as resources for them to use to satisfy the needs of the Mother-Father, whether directly or indirectly. And his view of consciousness was that the Mother-Father gave awareness to some things and this made them easier to control in an oblique way; the Mother-Father could simply explain the reasons why they should be venerated and the Vodun would go about their duties without question in perpetuity because the Mother-Father had appealed to their conscious understanding of their experience. The only difference between the Vodun and other beings in this instance is that the Vodun possess the power to endure beyond the expiration of their bodies. The memories that they leave behind can use incantations and spells so that the personality persists around those things. But Owuo believed that to be reserved for the Vodun. He was shocked to find out that every soul, every set of memories, is capable of incantations and spells to persist. The arcana of the soul is a significant part of Death Magic.

And it was in Deads’ Town that Owuo made his observations and developed Death Magic, also known as Spirit Energy Manipulation, and Necromancy, among other things. Owuo worked alongside the deads of Deads’ Town to develop Death Magic, he was not the Abosom of Evil in Deads’ Town, he was a curious observer who let the deads learn what their beings were capable of.
