Hello, hello dear readers! We hope you enjoyed that February interim short. If you’re a fan of the style and overall plot, you have to check out Kentaro Miura’s Berserk. Some people call it the greatest manga of all time, I wouldn’t go that far, but it is really good and thought provoking. With all great works of art, there are flaws in the narrative, and some would say there’s a lot of gratuitous nudity, but if you can get past that, there’s a lot to enjoy. It is a dark fantasy story for mature audiences so be aware of that, and I think it does what Game of Thrones tries to do, but it does it much better. Berserk has one of the most thoughtful critiques of a monarchy and leadership that you can find in literature.
Be sure to check out PRL Vol. 4 in June for the exciting continuation of Âmuk!
Before I go, I have to shout out two things I’m currently watching. If you have access to FX, you have to check out the new Shōgun show. I watched the first two episodes and they were amazing. I don’t like reading subtitles, but it really is so good you don’t notice after a while. Secondly, if you haven’t seen Henry Louis Gates Jr’s Gospel documentary (I think it’s 4 parts), go watch it now. Most PBS documentaries are great, and the Ken Burns Jazz and Country music documentaries were no exception, but Gospel is even better. I did grow up in the southern AME Zion church so I am biased, but it’s a great documentary.
Wesley is up next for the March interim short, and you should look forward to an excerpt from the Manual and Reference of the Fonlands. Coming at you soon, or soon enough!
