Badú: We found the pipe!
GM: Leilar and Ariel see Mensah and Badú flying down from the top floor and they land with big smiles on their faces. Mensah holds a pipe that has a shank and stem as long as his arm and it has a big bowl that rests comfortably in his hand. It is dark brown and weathered, but it looks to be recently polished so the smooth surfaces reflect light.
Ariel: You couldn’t have found that five minutes ago?
Mensah: We are in the Fonlands, but we have the pipe. We should be able to smoke it to find the portal back to the swamp.
Leilar: Right! It gives you more knowledge about whatever you’re thinking about. Why didn’t we think of that?
Ariel: I am freaking out much less now. Light that shit up then.
GM: Mensah holds up a finger and the tip begins to glow white-yellow. He puts the stem to his mouth and lights the pipe with his finger as he puffs at it.
Ariel: Let me hit it.
GM: Mensah passes it to Ariel who also takes a hit. I’m going to have you both roll for Resilience first to see if you can handle Jeje’s pipe. You’ll roll 1D20 and have to get a 10 or above. Then I’ll have you roll.Wisdom to see how much you both learn from smoking it, and how well you can use that knowledge to navigate toward the portal back to the swamp.
Leilar: I think I have to hit it, too. Just to increase our chances of getting what we need.
Ariel: Of course.
Leilar: Of course.
GM: So Leilar, you’ll roll the same, but you get privilege on the Resilience roll.
Ariel: Badú, you don’t take a hit in case it fuck us all up.
Badú: Alright, but I’m smoking it when we get back to the swamp.
GM: Ok, Badú is the DD and everyone else, give me a Resilience roll, Leilar with advantage.
Mensah: 18
Ariel: 5, oh god.
Leilar: 15 and Divine 20!
GM: Ariel, you were not ready for that Fonlands smoke. It makes your eyes start swimming almost immediately and you are in your head.
Ariel: Oooo, chile. Let me sit down and put my head between my knees.
GM: Leilar and Mensah, you’re both feeling the smoke in your head, lifting your skulls in a pleasant way, but you’ve got your wits. Everyone, roll for Wisdom.
Mensah: 14
Ariel: 7, of course.
Leilar: 8. That sucks.
GM: It’s not that you all don’t learn more about how to navigate the Fonlands to find the weak spots that allow for transition to Earth, its that the way you’re learning it is foreign and it’s hard to synthesize it. Ariel and Leilar, you both can see the spot where the portal to the swamp is located, but it’s hard to understand how to get there from where you are. Mensah on the other hand, can navigate to it from where you all are. He can tell you will have to leave the Aziza tree and hike through the jungle a little ways to find it, and then the portal will appear in the presence of the Umbatia.
Mensah: There is a waterfall nearby, you both saw it?
Leilar: I saw it, but I can’t figure out how to get there. It’s a jumble of trees and leaves.
Mensah: I can get us there. It’s not too far if we move quickly.
Badú: What about Ariel? Can she walk?
Ariel: Can she, GM? How long will my bad trip last?
GM: You can walk, but you’ll probably need help. And I don’t know if you’ve ever smoked marijuana before, but we’ll time it similarly, a couple of hours maybe. Hopefully you’re back to the swamp before then. The high is heady, so you’re easily distracted by your own thoughts. You can do stuff, you can walk and talk, but you’re easily distracted and want to sit and think intensely or look at something interesting. If you’re trying to get somewhere quickly, someone is going to have to make sure you don’t get left behind or you will wander off into the jungle.
Leilar: I’ve got you, girl. Can you fly with me?
Ariel: I can fly, but I’m thinking about how portals even work. Like, space itself rips apart and then on either side are two different spaces, and times…
GM: The group led by Mensah fly away from the Aziza tree and into the jungle.
Mensah: It’s right up here. We should land and walk to the waterfall. We’ll have to fly out over it when we’re there.
GM: They climb over the roots of trees until they come to the clearing next to a river that rushes over a cliff. Before you guys go jump through the portal, I’m going to roll to see if you have a random encounter with an Fonlander, and if it’s a positive or negative encounter. I’ll roll a D20, if it’s less than 7, you all encounter something before you’re able to leave.
Encounter Roll: 5
GM: The Aziza tree has been long abandoned and it makes sense that you all would find yourself in a relatively empty section of the jungle of Agê’s disc, but just as you all leave the trees to fly over the river, you hear something behind you rustling the leaves.
I’m going to roll another D20 to see if it is a positive or negative encounter. Over 10 is positive, 10 and under is negative.
Come back soon to find out the Encounter Nature Roll, and if Leilar and Ariel will have an easy return to the Umbatia swamp.
