Game Master: The rainforests of Wiis are dense and lush with vegetation, and the biodiversity is mind boggling. As Leilar takes first steps into the forest from the ship where her father, Wielar, is injured after their ship was shot down on approach to the planet, she is plunged into a rich soundscape and a humid atmosphere. Leilar and her father are not aware who shot them down, but Wielar’s plan upon landing is for Leilar to rendezvous with Rusa and for the two of them to bring Pultine’s cocoon back to the ship that took some damage, but is able to fly them off world. Wielar injured his leg in the crash and is not able to move quickly.
Leilar, how does it feel to be in the jungles where your father was born?
Leilar: It’s so red here. I haven’t seen so many shades of red in my life. It’s so beautiful. I’ve seen pictures of it, but nothing does it justice. It’s hot out here, but I don’t mind it. It’s hot, but not dry. I hate dry heat. And the smells, oh man. I can’t describe it. It reminds me of my father, though. It’s peppery, kind of sweet.
GM: Just as you let yourself relax, pushing the missiles that shot you and your father out of the sky from your mind to replace with an unexplained feeling of comfort, you hear the sound of laser fire in the direction that you’re approaching.
Leilar: I wonder if it’s the jeris that shot us down?
GM: Only one way to find out.
Leilar raises her weapon; a laser rifle that is strapped to her back and she aims it as she continues to move through the foliage. A laser shot, a bar of red, pierces the leaves near her head. Give me a roll for agility, Leilar, to see if you’re hit by the shot or dodge it. That’s 1D20 and you take two rolls, then the highest number.
Leilar: So a 2 and another 2. Great.
GM: You see it coming at you, but you don’t dodge it in time. You’re hit on your left shoulder. Let’s say this blaster has a Strength score of 15 with no bonus, so I’ll roll 1D8 to determine your damage. That’s an 8, and you have an armor class of 16 that decreases the damage inflicted by an attack by 2D4. 3 and 2, that’s a 5. You take 3 damage. Your Hits points are down to 161.
Leilar: I want to extend the bayonet of my laser rifle. It’s about two feet long and it’s a solid blue laser. I wield that with my right hand while I activate my solid light shield with the other. It’s a sturdy shield that can take considerable damage and it’s translucent. I hold it up in front of my face protecting my entire head and torso while I slash at the foliage with my laster to clear it out. This is a state of the art shield, my mother would not let me leave Top without the best equipment, so the inside of the shield has an augmented reality overlay that measures the terrain and heat signatures nearby to detect enemies.
GM: That shield is great for cutting through the suspense I had planned for you. So with your shield, you detect three armed guards about three feet away. They have the same technology that is in your shield inside of their helmets, but it’s not quite as sophisticated as yours. The closer you approach them, the easier it will be for them to target you, but I imagine that you probably have a lock on them.
Leilar: Indeed, and I retract the bayonet, increase the output on my laser rifle and pick them off one by one. Actually, I retreat a little to make sure they can’t lock on me and then I pick them off one by one.
GM: Very smart maneuvering there. So give me a Strength roll for each guard and you get an advantage on each roll.
Leilar: Ok. For the first one, I roll 3 and 6. Damn it, I’m rolling poorly.
GM: So you miss the first.
Leilar: For the second I get a 19 and 13. There we go! I got ‘em!
GM: You did. Roll Damage, that’s 1D10 and you’re gonna add 4D4 of damage for your attack bonus. Your attackers have a 7 armor class and 20 Hit Points.
Leilar: My 1D10 is 5. My 4D4 are 1, 2, 1, 1.
GM: That’s 10 Damage and they will roll 1D4 to try to reduce that. They got a 4, so 6 damage on the second guard, he’s down to a 14. Roll for your shot on the third guard.
Leilar: A 19 and 4.
GM: Roll for damage.
Leilar: My 1D10 is 5. My 4D4 are 1, 1, 1, 3.
GM: That’s 11, minus the armor roll, it’s a 3, so 8 for the third guard. He’s down to 12.
You’re essentially in combat with these guys now, so lets get a MAO roll.
Parties’ MAO:

1 – 3 Jeris Guards
Unaffiliated – Leilar
Parties’ MAO:
Party 1 1D4 = 1
P1: Jeris Guard 1 1D4 = 3
P1: Jeris Guard 2 1D4 = 4
P1: Jeris Guard 3 1D4 = 2
Unaffiliated Players’s MAO:
Leilar 1D4 = 3
MAO: Leilar, Jeris Guard 2, Jeris Guard 1, Jeris Guard 3
GM: It’s on you Leilar.
Leilar: I can see from my map inside my shield that the location of Rusa and Pultine’s cocoon are about twenty feet in the direction of the guards. It’s possible that they’re here to recover our downed ship and I can’t have them getting back to my father, so I’ll go through them. I will use the Eminent Storm. It’s a mmoatia spell, a derivation of my mother’s special. I flap my wings and I can control the winds that I generate and I direct the winds to pick up each guard and smash them into nearby trees until they knock out. I’ll do this on every turn until they’re down.
GM: So Roll 1D12.
Leilar: I got a 12.
GM: Plus 5 for your Essence Retention, that’s more than successful. I’m gonna give you three rolls on the D4 to determine the number of things you bounce each guard off of.
Leilar: A 2, 4 and 1.
GM: They’ll each take four separate blows in your windstorm. You strap your weapon and hold your shield center mass as you bend your knees, then flap your brown-orange wings hard and the winds off of your wings are so pronounced that you can practically see them.
Leilar: I flex my ecstatic and take control of the winds and send them to each guard that is swept up and battered around the trees. I roll 1D10 right, and I add 4D4 of damage for my bonus.
GM: Quick learner.
Leilar: So, 1D10 is 8. My 4D4 are 3, 3, 3, 2. That’s 19.
GM: This is guard 1, he has his full 20 Hit Points. He rolls 1D4 to see how much damage he saves. Just 2, so he takes 17 damage. Finish him off with your second blow, he’s down to 3.
Leilar: 1D10 is 9. 4D4 are 4, 3, 4, 4. 24. He’s out. How many Hit Points on the others?
GM: Guard 2 is at 14 and Guard 3 is at 12.
Leilar: I think we know how this is going to go. Can we assume that my attack is much stronger than their defenses based on what happened to the first.
GM: Roll 1D10 and 4D4 and if the total is over 14, the highest Hit Points of your remaining adversaries, I’ll let you complete your mission and get back to the ship with Rusa and Pultine. Your Essence Retention is Supreme level, so you can probably do the Eminent Storm as many times as you need to clear any obstacles.
Leilar: I got 9 on the D10, 4, 1, 4, 4 on the D4. That’s a 22.
GM: Leilar is a beast in the rainforest of Wiis and she easily dispatches the guards that were indeed responsible for the missiles that grounded Wielar’s ship. They were in a party of twelve that fanned out after downing the father and daughter. They were shot down because Wielar failed to decloak upon entering the atmosphere of Wiis and the Defense Ministry is hostile toward unidentified spacecraft attempting to sneak onto the planet.
Leilar encounters the rest of the search party before she reaches Rusa who is hold up in a cave deep in the foliage, and she sweeps them up into the canopy with the winds from her wings.
When she reaches the cave, Rusa sits quietly with his eyes closed, wings down at his back next to what looks like a coffin made of vines and leaves, and dotted with the most beautiful flowers Leilar has ever laid eyes on. Leilar is struck with wonder at the sight of the cocoon and when she opens her mouth to speak, Rusa opens his eyes. Her voice catches in her throat.
Rusa: Thank you for coming. It is a puzzling inconvenience that mmoatia cocoons do not travel through portals. Let’s get Pultine to Earth.
