Vistas of Endla – 5 – The Arch of Hysteria Campaign: Zazel vs. Tracia Battle, with DR Agiel

Zazel Rolls: 76

GM: It’s battle time folks, and since Zazel is in the fight, her Designated Roller, Agiel will join me today. Hi Agiel.

Agiel: How long has this been going on? Why don’t I have a handsome voiced narrator intervening to turn this harrowing experience into a game?

GM: Please don’t take offense, you’re just a delight to watch and you do an excellent job of wearing your heart on your sleeve in this narrative. You don’t need anyone to articulate your inner emotions, least of all me, though I thank you for the compliment.

Agiel: You are a charmer, aren’t you? Carry on, then, oh mighty disembodied voice. How does this work exactly? Are we the commentators for Zaza’s fight?

GM: I hadn’t thought about it that way, but we definitely should since I have you here. You’re Zazel’s DR, so as the fight with Tracia progresses, you will have to roll to determine the effectiveness of her attacks.

Agiel: So I’m deciding if she’s successful in the fight or not? Seems like you’re robbing your female protagonist of her agency.

GM: The dice are deciding, you’re just dropping them and reading the number. You should talk to Lolof about being robbed of his agency, this game was rough on him and he didn’t even have a battle, he was barely in the story.

Agiel: Well, don’t say any more names of things I don’t know, I’m not interested in anything that doesn’t progress this plot. Let’s get to it before I lose interest completely.

GM: Very well said, Agiel.

“Do we have to fight in this simulation?” Zazel asks. She is standing before Tracia who shines like gold with an orb of glittering energy in her raised hand.

“It will contain the damage, and we wouldn’t want to cause destruction to the homes of our hosts. That is common courtesy I’m assuming Welboas did not raise you with. Good that I am here now, daughter.”

Zazel’s face contorts with anger. Her tan skin begins to brighten, like a fire suddenly boils inside of her, and she lets out a roar in the direction of Tracia. A melon-sized ball of fiery, molten rock explodes from her mouth as she roars and Tracia pushes her glittering orb forward to intercept it. There is a loud crack when they collide and a chaos of light and glitter.

GM: Agiel, things are getting pretty heated.

Agiel: For that golden lady. I bet her wings are singed. Zaza’s Demon Blasts are her most potent weapons. The golden lady must really be annoying her if she’s starting with such a deadly attack.

GM: The Demon Blast is deadly, but how deadly is it against Tracia, the Supreme Mmoatia? It’s time to roll to find out. Zazel’s attack connected with the orb that Tracia wielded. Roll 1d4 to determine if, 1. Zazel’s blast isn’t effective enough to disturb Tracia’s orb; 2. Zazel’s blast neutralizes Tracia’s orb; 3. Zazel’s orb neutralizes Tracia’s orb and causes discomfort to Tracia; 4. Zazel’s orb easily neutralizes Tracia’s orb and knocks Tracia off her feet (Tracia is not critically wounded, but stunned, allowing Zazel to quickly follow up her attack).

Agiel Rolls: 3

Zazel charges at Tracia, hoping to use the glittery light show as a distraction to strike Tracia, and she winds up, then launches a fist into the fading chaos. Her fist meets hard resistance and she retreats.

“Well done, little one,” Tracia says. “Your power equaled mine, how surprising. But you do not surpass me.”

Tracia arches her wings and then thrusts her shoulders forward to flap them so hard and fast that she is in Zazel’s face in an instant and her fist jams into Zazel’s abdomen, making her double over the fist like it holds her up.

Tracia retreats just as fast and lets Zazel drop to the ground. She lifts both her hands and collects energy that ignites as two glittering orbs in each hand that she launches at Zazel as she tries to regain her footing. Tracia throws a dozen of the orbs at Zazel in a split second.

GM: She went for the extra hit and it’s costing her.

Agiel: She’s usually fast enough to pull that off, I’ve seen her, but this Tracia is a tough opponent. Maybe she really is Zaza’s mother.

GM: She definitely is.

Agiel: That’s what they said before. This one is much more impressive.

GM: Tracia’s Dozen Golden Lights seems to have hit harder than that punch to the gut. Roll 1d4 to determine if, 1. Tracia’s attack isn’t effective at all against Zazel and she stands unharmed with a few bruises; 2. Zazel takes damage, but she is able to get up with enough energy to block or attack; 3. Zazel takes damage and struggles to stand, but is able to block a moderate attack; 4. Zazel takes damage that keeps her grounded and unguarded for a few minutes.

Agiel Rolls: 2

Zazel is rattled by Tracia’s attack, the wings on her forearms are singed and smoke drifts up from them, but she shakes it off and stands in a defensive position.

“So you did learn your lesson.” Tracia says derisively. “Is it apparent enough to you yet that you do not have the strength to beat me? Or do you beg to be beaten into the artificial dust of this dome floor?”

Zazel takes flight and as she ascends, her body lets loose an aspect that has the appearance of ashes swimming in the wind, but the ash is smoldering red like embers.

“Fine,” Tracia says and lets lose her aspect that gives the appearance that she is engulfed in an orb of golden light with glitters of gold sloughing off at the edges. She charges at Zazel with her fists glowing in front of her. When she reaches Zazel, Tracia swings a fist with all of her might to strike Zazel from the sky.

GM: What does it look like to you, Agiel? Does Tracia have the upperhand? You think this awesome blow will connect?

Agiel: I guess I’m rolling to find out. Even if it does, Zaza’s aspect is truly unique among the Aerphim. Her aspect has debuff qualities that should help her take whatever damage Tracia is dishing out, and maybe do some damage of its own.

GM: Very interesting. Zazel’s aspect is a sight to behold. I have to admit, that I was not aware that the aerphim had an aspect.

Agiel: Everything that uses the essence can produce an aspect, but without a third heart, the aspect can deplete essence stores. When Zazel uses hers, she’s ready to put someone down. I have to think that this doesn’t look good for Tracia.

GM: Tracia’s aspect is truly magnificent in its own right, though. But lets roll. Roll 1d4 to determine if, 1. Tracia’s attack connects with devastating effect, knocking Zazel out cold; 2. Tracia’s attack connects with a stunning effect, leaving Zazel open for another attack; 3. Tracia’s attack connects and her power is seemingly canceled out by Zazel’s, they are both left without their aspect for a short time; 4. Tracia’s attack misses leaving her open to Zazel’s counter.

Agiel Rolls: 4

Agiel: I knew it! Come on, Zaza! Knock the essence out of her!

Zazel uses her aspect as a distraction. Just before Tracia winds up to swing and throws her fist, Zazel expels a rush of her aspect, then bucks her wings to fly back very fast, leaving the cloud of her aspect for Tracia to swing at. When Tracia misses, her eyes dart to the left where Zazel is smiling a devious smile at her and she throws her fist as she flies fast at Tracia. She connects with Tracia’s cheek and then she unleashes a flurry of fiery hands at Tracia, punching relentlessly. But the flurry doesn’t last long before Tracia catches Zazel’s fists. She squeezes them in her own and Zazel stifles a cry of pain. Tracia lifts Zazel’s fists and her arms, then slams them both toward the ground, sending Zazel zooming toward the artificial ground that rumbles underneath the impact.

“Zaza!” Agiel yells and flies in her direction. Tracia grabs him by the wings before he reaches the cloud of dust where Zazel’s body hits the ground.  “Let go of me, you mad woman!”

“I have your brother!” Tracia says as the dust clears around Zazel who struggles to stand. “Give this up and speak to me with manners or I will rip the wings from his body.

Zazel gets to her feet when she hears the threat to her brother, but she is in pain. She holds her side like something has been damaged there.

Game Move:

GM: This is crazy! I hope Agiel is ok. Zazel?

Zazel: What do you want? I thought Agiel was doing this dumb rolling thing.

GM: He was until he got sucked into the fight. What are you going to do? You gonna keep fighting or stop to save your brother?

Zazel: I must smash that bitch’s face in.

GM: Even at the expense of your brother?

Zazel: I don’t know, I can’t risk his life. I don’t…

GM: Say no more. You can roll 2d10 for a combined score, and if that score is more than 55, you attack Tracia again to try to free your brother and end this fight. If it’s less than 55, you end your fight and do as Tracia asks of you. Is that ok?

Zazel: Fine! Give me the dice.

Tune in next week to find out if Zazel goes in for another attack against Tracia, or if she yields.
