“Welcome to Heaven!” the man on the dock said enthusiastically. He was thin and seemed much taller than he was, and he was impeccably dressed in fancy clothing that was appropriate for a beach. There was a line of attractive muscular men and athletic women in bathing suits along the dock and as the guests of the ferry disembarked, the attractive men and women offered crowns and necklaces made of flowers, and some held trays of champagne and cocktails that they offered to guests. All of the attractive employees had small, feathered wings at their backs and the guests were delighted at the attention to detail.
“Follow me to your heavenly abode. Tonight’s show starts in two hours!”
The herald spoke loudly over the commotion and he led everyone from the dock, passing row boats and jet skis to the main street that was bright with yellow lights and looked like the main street of a small town. The main street had bars and restaurants, clothing stores, souvenir shops. The herald and the line of attractive employees with wings led the crowd of two hundred or so guests down the main street to what appeared to be bus stops. There were seven stops total and the employees helped to sort the crowd among the stops depending on the location of their accommodations.
“You should all drop off your luggage and then come back to enjoy Main Street! There are shows all over the island tonight until 3am, and the first show tomorrow starts at 3pm. Be sure to check the maps and itineraries in your rooms and find a gorgeous employee with wings if you have any questions. I will be your herald for the weekend and I know that you will have a heavenly time!”
As the herald finished, golden buses arrived to pick up everyone and soon the herald was standing with a group of the winged employees.
“Should be an eventful weekend,” one of the employees said.
“Oh, honey,” the herald said with a snap of his fingers, “that is the understatement of the decade. This weekend marks the return of Seraphiel! He has not graced this festival in years, but he’s here! I hope you’re all ready to have your minds blown!”
The winged employees began to disperese to the various jobs they’d been assigned on the island, but a beautiful young Korean woman in a two piece bathing suit with small black wings at her back stood next to the herald.
“I don’t know if you’re the person I should talk to about this, but I overheard some of the guests talking about a sacrifice. I thought it was a joke, but the lady they were with was pretty drunk…”
“Don’t worry your pretty little head,” the herald said. “She obviously just got excited on the ferry. If I were her, I’d probably be sloppy too. But don’t worry, nothing bad will happen to her.”
“How do you know?” the young woman asked.
“This is heaven sweetie! It’s paradise. There is nothing bad in heaven. Don’t worry your pretty little wings, honey. Now go, make some memories you’ll never forget.”
The herald smiled as the young woman walked away. He was excited. It was his first time serving as herald and he loved the large wings that beat at his back. All new employees to the event had small wings, but the herald was meant to stand out and he floated as his wings stirred the air near him. He smiled down over Main Street. It would be a weekend to remember for sure.
