from the Manual and Reference of the Fonlands
The first appearance of the Fonlands occured in the heart of Africa many years ago when the Earth was young.
The appearance of the Fonlands on Earth was a coincidence of very complex physics and the nature of the Fonlands is not quite existence as it is known throughout the multiverse. The entirety of the Fonlands is seven discs that overlap to form a circle with a large disc suspended above them on seven pillars that emerge from each disc, and it all rests atop the slumbering snake that hoists it up into the ether.
The strange nature of the Fonlands is attributed to its collision with a pillar of the superstructure of the multiverse and its subsequent settling into its current position where it has latched onto another universe in a strange way. The mingling of the Fonlands with this other universe that has qualities more akin to the Hyperion existence of its node, let’s call it Universe Prime 5, resulted in the discs of the Fonlands encroaching in regular intervals into Prime 5, and it just so happens that the planet Earth exists at the center of the Fonlands Discs – even on its revolution of the sun because the discs of the Fonlands wobble as the slumbering snake breathes – just under the suspended middle disc. This is significant because the arcane energy generated by the Fonlands Discs are concentrated at the spot in the middle of their circle formation, and this is the cause of the regular appearance of the Fonlands on Earth.
It occured for the first time, and continues to this day, in present day Congo. Beings of the Fonlands have immense knowledge and they can exist on Earth. They can also wield magic that is the stuff of Earther fairy tales. Earthers have traveled to the Fonlands, but there are no first-person accounts of their time there.
From their first emergence in the jungles of the Congo, the Fonlanders spread all throughout the continent and eventually the entire planet.
Stories of encounters with beings of magic and mischief exist around the world and demonstrate the diaspora of Fonlanders on Earth. Tales of tiny people in the forests on Earth, or monsters in the jungles, are generally accounts of humanity’s interactions with the beings of the Fonlands, some of which have lived on Earth for a considerable time before the evolution of humanity.
Only a tiny fraction of the population of the Fonlands have journeyed to Earth, and the majority of those Fonlanders are small compared to humans; some are as small as insects. They are relatively low on the hierarchy of the Fonlands that is ruled by Mawu-Lisa on behalf of the elusive creator that exists deep in the ether and rarely appears at the discs. Muwa-Lisa occupies the Lofted Disc as the Ruling Gods and they generate the forces that hold the discs of their existence together. This force is known as the Divine Essence and it is a strange combination of magic and science that is the physics of the Fonlands, and is responsible for the arcane abilities of Fonlanders. The abilities of an Fonlander are dictated by the discs on which they are born, for each of the seven discs is the domain of Muwa-Lisa’s seven children. Each ruler is known as the Vodun of the Fonlands and they each have their own specialties and purviews. Sakpata is the Vodun of Minerals and Rocks; Xêvioso is the Vodun of Weather and Justice; Agbe is the Vodun of the Waters; Gû is the Vodun of Iron and Fury; Agê is the Vodun of the Forests, Jungles and the Harvest; Jo is the Vodun of the Wind and Air; and Lêgba is the Vodun of Trickery and Unpredictability. Six of Mawu-Lisa’s children were born with identical twins of the same name, only Lêgba was a single birth.
There is a generation of Lesser Vodun produced by the seven, who possess more Divine Essence than the average Fonlander, but less than the Vodun. No Vodun or Lesser Vodun has ever stepped foot on Earth. No Earther has ever seen a Vodun in person.

The Disc of Agê
The disc of Agê is half jungle, half forest and it is home to many varieties of woodland creatures. The House of Agê is an elaborate structure built above the ground in the lush canopy of the jungle. There are platforms and bridges between buildings made of wood and the House of Agê is actually a city where Agê can be found in the biggest wooden structure that is her true house. Her seat rests on the roof of this structure and she is able to survey all of the vast jungle and the adjoining forest from her seat. There are many communities throughout Agê’s disc formed by the Fonlanders born in the fertile jungle or the forest and they all draw strength from the flora of the disc.
Agê has a twin who rules the underside of the disc that is a barren known as the Underside Wasteland. The twins are completely identical and are always warring for control of the jungle/forest side of the disc, and they have formed alliances with the various Fonlanders of their disc over the long history of their struggle for dominance. The Agê of the underside of the disc occupies the House of Sand that is a wonder if one is able to encounter it from a distance, like a giant sand castle. But any being caught near the House of Sand is seized by Agê’s guards, an assortment of forest dwelling giants that had the misfortune of finding themselves on the underside, and they are either eaten (there is very little sustetance in the barren of the Underside Wasteland), or put to work as slaves.
The Divine Essence of the disc of Agê is housed in the flora and the Fonlanders of the disc in turn derive their magic from the flora and the soil that is thick and rich on the surface of the disc. The majority of the Fonlanders of Agê’s disc are beings with human-like features. Many of them are able to change their size, but are generally unable to change their appearance. Some have wings in two varieties, either two with one on each side of their backs, or four with two on each side.
Sampling of Fonlanders Who Inhabit Earth
From the Disc of Agê
Mmoatia
The mmoatia, or an aboatia, were described by the Earthers who encountered them in the vicinity of present-day Ghana. The mmoatia are said to be small compared to humans with round noses and faces. Their skin is light brown, almost yellow, and their toes are located on the heels of their feet.
They have a reputation for trickery and love a good laugh. It is said that they will give knowledge of the forest to any Earther that makes them laugh. Their knowledge of the flora of the forests is extensive and they can prepare cures for any Earther disease.
Black, Red, and White
There are three types of mmoatia, distinguishable by color. The Black are typically very beautiful with wings and a glittering aspect to their magic. They get along well with Earthers. The Red are very aggressive and generally view Earthers as nothing more than imbeciles to be manipulated for their entertainment. Wings are not common to Red mmoatia and there is a flame aspect to their magic. The White are among the most cruel Fonlanders to dwell the forests and are said to use trickery to trap Earthers for consumption. There is no aspect to their magic, meaning that there is no visual manifestation of the magic they wield. The White have the ability to mimic the bodies of Earthers that they consume, though they cannot increase their height.
Yumboes
The yumboes, or a yumbo, were described by the Earthers who encountered them in the vicinity of present-day Senegal. Yumboes are said to have white skin that shines in the light. Their facial features are sharp, but pleasant; they have high cheekbones and prominent jawlines.
They are known to get along well with Earthers and seem to have a fascination with specific families that they meet. Yumboes are said to have the ability to communicate with the spirits of the deceased and can serve as vessels for possession to allow spirits to interact with the land of the living.
Day, Night
Two types of yumboes have been described and they are distinguishable by the time of day in which they are most active. Day Yumboes shine so brightly under the sunlight that they are often mistaken for rays of the sun. They have wings and like to fly through the air in the hottest part of the day. Night Yumboes are resplendent under the moonlight. They have wings that are stubbier than their daytime counterparts and they cannot fly for extended periods. The magic of all yumboes has the aspect of light orbs and beams.
