The Master of Multiversal Arcana

* * *

Here we go again, the spooky stories continue as the Master continues his investigation of the alien threat loose on Earth.

In addition to research on the origins of Halloween, this October, I read the first volume of Marvel’s Dr. Strange Epic Collection, that has a few dozen 10-page issues of Dr. Strange that appeared in the comic Strange Tales. It’s the first appearance of the character written by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko I believe, and it was good enough for me to read over three hundred pages of it. I think it’s from the 60s and comics back then were very different from what comics have morphed into over decades. I enjoy reading older comics because it’s fun to piece together a character’s history through the various adventures across different books. The execution of older comics might seem primitive in comparison to stuff out there today, but the concepts from then are really cool. Dr. Strange meets one of my favorite Marvel characters from the Starlin era, well before the Starlin era, the embodiment of the universe, Eternity. Strange battles his nemesis Mordo and protects his universe from the dread Dormammu with the help of the silver haired Clea. If I were a kid when this stuff came out, I definitely would have been into it and reading it as an adult is cool in a different way.

I wonder if Stan Lee and Steve Ditko knew about Issac Washington, the Master of Universal Arcana? He wasn’t the Master then, though, so probably not. I have a better question, who’d win in a fight? The Master Washington vs Dr. Strange.

There’s one more Issue left of this Halloween Special. Come back soon for the exciting conclusion!

Tonight:

– – –

The Master is disappointed in the Seer Extraordinaire, apparently he dropped the ball and is responsible for monsters emerging from the cave. But Issac is on the case and he seeks out the Morrigan for answers.

Remarkable: “The woman had fair skin, but even from a distance, Issac saw the darkness of it, like her skin was opaque and showed a smoky inside. Her hair was black and jagged at the ends and as they approached her, Issac thought her hair was composed of black feathers. She had a pleasant face, but she had a menacing look with her eyes closed.”

– – –

Issac has a nemesis, another very familiar name that is unlike the character that comes to mind. The fearsome witch Anesu Chimutengwende came knocking at the gates of the Museum during the Ill Nights to take advantage of the distraction of a world gone mad.

The Master in: The Ill Nights: “Anesu Chimutengwende is a witch. She is from a family of very powerful magic users and since she was a little girl and saw her mother use her mind to move things around their house, she became obsessed with the words her mother used to control her surroundings.”

The Lightning God has finally arrived…in this series. This is a direct continuation of the last issue of the series The Lightning God, and something strange is happening to the boys Ivan and Clay. The Master also makes an appearance!

Remarkable: “The disappearance of Clay Franklin was international news by the time Leo was able to speak to authorities and he didn’t notice the FBI agents assisting in the investigation. In America, Leo was a celebrity and the entire country seemed to mourn with him as they watched round-the-clock news coverage of developments in the search for the boy.”
