Time to Read:

3–4 minutes

It’s here, and much faster than you probably anticipated, dear readers. We have made it through a summer of dreams and nightmares and we have reached an end.

It’s been a good one if I do say so myself and I’m excited to see what next summer’s Vol. 2 will have in store. You can expect Max back at his quest to find the first VIV, and I think Wes is gearing up for more stories about his favorite uncle. Be sure to come back next summer for more exciting stories told in small pieces.

Now that the summer’s over and the weather is getting cooler, it’s time to look toward the Halloween Special. Enjoy the end of Vol. 1 and stay tuned for spooky stories in honor of the season.

Enjoy!

This week:

Leeland reaches the end of the cycle and he has a new name. I went from kind of liking him to being slightly afraid, but I have to say, it’s awesome to see a black man make a fool out of Lovecraft’s Outer Gods.

The Black Dream Cycle: “I realized something as I smiled at Azathoth. Even though he had taken me far from the Dreamlands, I was still sleeping, just like Ala said in the desert of the Earth Gods.”

This last story from Wes is sad, and slightly graphic. Reader discretion is advised.

Wes E. L.’s Relationships and Men: “In front of a computer, the boy is anything he wants to be. He will pose himself just right to attract attention. His house is empty. He is 15, his birthday was a month ago and his parents bought him an IPod Touch, which he had been asking for for years. They’d resisted buying the device because they didn’t think he was old enough for technology so savvy.”

One day, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not the next day, I will be a master electrician. It can happen.

Electricity Sonnets: “I will tame the supercharged particles / With ropes of metal coated like candy / In rainbow colors that run a gamut…”

– – –

All we can do is keep moving. All we can do is survive until tomorrow, only then can we move on to the next one.

Life in Marvelous Times (2010): “my attempt at difference. was the creation of Hummer Cross. the gunning of a utility vehicle’s multiple cylinders in front of me and cascading back, sending chills through me as a leaf tapped by rain, quells every frustration long enough to suffice…”

I close out this Vol. of the Anthology with a love story. Or one where love should be. Relationships are hard.

Shuffle:  “Peter looked at Madeline differently. In the beginning of their relationship, there was love in his eyes. That’s how he hooked her. He would gaze lovingly at her for long minutes that they both got lost in and she figured it meant that there was something magical between them.”

Did Max have a rarebit dream? Will any of the contributors leave the VIV collective? Find out now as the writer summit comes to a close.

Welsh Rarebit: “I was disappointed that of everyone who had eaten the rarebit, I never had a nightmare or strange dream over the course of our summit in Wilmington. Then I realized that, not only had the rarebit warped reality around me and my friends for about a week, but the black figure who persisted across the dreams of my contributors, had reared his head to all of us in the form of Ellison Colston.”
