The Rhasdwiis, the dominant sentient species of the planet Wiis, have a very long history. They have existed for almost a million years and they have always lived on the planet Wiis. The femina cogitandi, or the Rhasdwiis species as identified by Earthling scientists, are an extremely similar species to homo sapiens of Earth. The scientists of the Consortium of Human History, in conjunction with nurses of distinction at the Universal Infirmary, have completed a comprehensive comparison of the DNA of homo sapiens and femina cogitandi, and the similarities are striking.
Unlike the homo sapiens of Earth that seem to be the culmination of many prehistoric species that intermingled, the femina cogitandi reached a point in the span of their time on Wiis when they gave rise to other species that were similar with variations. It is believed that among the general population of femina cogitandi, there is also the mountain dwelling femina volantes, who generally subsist in environments that are oxygen depleted and they compensate by storing oxygen in large specialized lungs that are heated by their bodies and allow them to levitate at lower altitudes. Mingling of the femina cogitandi and volantes has produced the femina excelsis.
An older branch of femina cogitandi is the femina tenebris, that exists in much smaller numbers and are nocturnal. Contrary to their name, they lack skin pigmentation and are generally ghostly white. They are called the femina tenebris because they prefer to live underground or in caves, and only emerge into open air when the suns of Wiis have set.
The femina tenebris exist in the shadows of larger Rhasdwiis society that views them as demons or monsters. The word used to refer to the species is difficult to translate into English because it is not a word of the traditional languages spoken by the Rhasdwiis. We will refer to them as the D-.
There are two suns of the planet Wiis, Kur-quer (Rhasdwiis for north-south) and Fun-phuen (or east-west). Time on Wiis is measured by the day and night cycles of the planet that are about twice the length of daylight and twilight cycles on Earth and they mark weeks, months and years in increments of seven, so one week is seven days, one month is seven weeks, and one year is seven months. The Rhasdwiis use the term Wiis-rount, or just rount on Wiis, to refer to a week. A month is called a frount, a year is a trount.
Every fifteen trounts, Kur-quer and Fun-phuen align and are obscured by one of the many moons of Wiis for an entire revolution around the planet, effectively blocking out both suns for a complete daylight cycle all around the entire planet.
The Rhasdwiis fear the double eclipse and there are many stories about the havoc that the D- unleash during the Triple Night.
