Coyotl and the woman spent a lot of time together while he enjoyed Quinspace Eel. It really was a nice place to call home and he could forget about whatever stress Anansi had been talking about. Conversations with the single-horned Ascendant woman made him feel better about the state of things.

She said that the universe is resilient. Because we are small beings within it, our contribution is notable, but not impactful. “We are part of the system and whatever we do becomes a function of that system. We can have impact in some sense, but on the larger scale, we are just a part.”

Coyotl understood that.

She said the flow of time is a major system operation. “It’s the best example of our influence. We have the ability to make choices and our cumulative choices result in a specific future. The sum total of that future could mean the accelerated death of this existence, or it could mean the exact opposite. But regardless of the sum total of our choices, the fate of the universe is decided by us and so many other things that we can’t be said to have been the true cause of the universe’s demise. We matter, and at the same time we don’t. The future and the present are closely linked and the universe, the system, is awesome at compensating and using our variables for it’s plans.”

Maybe Coyotl didn’t completely understand that.

She said that the legendary Par-Cell 77 didn’t mean to rescue the universe from the meddling of the Ascendant with her Recommendation. “The universe easily compensated for our blunder, but we did change the natural flow of existence even if things would come to be as they are because the universe would dictate it. Par-Cell 77 believes that we Ascendant have imposed our will on the development of the physical world and she was dedicated to correcting that.”

Coyotl definitely didn’t understand that, he had no idea who Par-Cell 77 was and he wondered how legendary she could possibly be.

She said many things and Coyotl became very accustomed to her presence.

But one day as she was elaborating on something, the single-horned Ascendant woman disappeared before him, and rather than be alarmed, Coyotl went about his life as though the woman had never existed.
