The Kazi know that the Ife created everything in existence. The Ife was nothing, was darkness, and then it realized that there could be more, and so came the light, the Osu, who the Ife made in the image of everything that it was not.

The Ife and the Osu were two sides of a coin and the Ife was content. Everything that should be, was, and in the blissful nothing, the Ife slept. Meanwhile, the Osu was busy with the wonders of everything. When the Osu saw the Ife in its slumber, the Osu was mad. The Ife wanted a balanced existence of nothing and something, but was lazy in its maintenance. To show the Ife the folly of taking something for granted, the Osu retreated to the dark nothing, displacing the Ife, who was jarred awake in the brightness of everything. Unable to handle the burden of shepherding existence on its own, the Ife cried to the Osu and begged it for help.

The Osu appeared and the Ife understood its error. The two – the dark and the light, the nothing and the something – have ruled in tandem ever since.

The Ife and Osu had many children and their exploits have shaped the existence that beings of the universe, or Ifeosu, experience.
