The Kazi of the planet Eel are identified as such because of their ability to wield magic. All Kazi have an ancestral link to the Tetah District, and they are one of many ethnic groups on the planet Eel. The planet has many habitable continents and the Eeling, a dominant species of sentient beings, live on all of them in many districts that are elaborate cities carved into the great Red Mountains that spread the planet.
The Eeling are the ancient civilization from which the Fhetatians trace their origins. The Fhetatians were a distinct ethnic group of Eeling who were markedly different than other Eeling who hibernated regularly and did not have long, opposable tales. The Ancient Fhetatians of Eel were also distinguished by their technology and the majority left the planet Eel to establish their own civilization on their ill-fated home world that had been discovered by Fhetatian scientists in a solar system that they were capable of reaching. The Fhetatians called their first home world Ife, and the large star that it revolved, Ife-Ife. The Ife was the God of the ancient Fhetatian religion on Eel that was thought to have created all life in the universe and they believed that the founding of Ife was the will of the creator. When the planet was doomed because of the increased production of nano technology, the religious stayed put, believing that whatever fate befell then was the fate predestined by the creator. Those who were able to flee Ife, largely abandoned the ancient religion.
The Kazi of Eel are said to be the last of the Fhetatians who remained on the planet because those who remained either migrated to the welcoming Kazi district and assimilated, or the Kazi expanded their district into the remnants of Fhetatian society on Eel, and the two cultures have mixed over the years to represent both histories.
The Kazi practice the ancient religion that exalts Ife as the creator who gifts them with their magical abilities. The Kazi do not shun technology, but they do not embrace it as readily as the majority of Eeling civilization, and as their ancient Fhetatian ancestors did. The Kazi venerate the planet Eel and the Red Mountains and they abhor technologies that sully the world they love so much.
The Kazi are feared by some of Eeling society who think of them as witches who can transmutate, teleport, fly, talk to more primitive animal species, and many other skills that are not common to the average inhabitant of Eel’s dominant species.
The Kazi are empowered by the Quinspace, though the Eeling, like many other contemporary beings of the universe, are not fully aware of the Quinspace. The ancient Kazi families have formed alliances over centuries with families of Quinspace beings who inhabit their world, and their cooperation is woven into their customs, though the Kazi are not fully aware of the source of their powers. In the way that many Earthlings have been doing the bidding of Quinspace beings for the length of their existence on their planet, the Kazi have done the same on Eel, but they are master manipulators of Quinspace powers.
