All sentient life is connected. The appendages may be different, we may eat different things, and live in different solar systems, but at the end of the day, we’re all one big family.

It’s time to explore the branches of the universal family tree, and today, we present:

Druinte Social Society (Series 2)

E, Eris, Erim [He, His, Him; She, Hers, Her respectively]

– Issue 10 – Reliable Counsel

Daecoo’s complex foresight does not work the same as it had for historical durine who used the skill to avoid deadly predators. Daecoo doesn’t even use it the same way that it was beneficial in Changuzi because there are no dangerous threats from natural disasters that e can warn against in Triusia. What Daecoo feels when e sleeps is like many lights coming on in a vast city at night that he stands over. Like one by one the lights go on as the inhabitants realize the available light.

Daecoo wakes in eris plain, square room that has only a bed and closet for eris clothing. E dresses for the morning meeting with Falstraq and e is ready in a short time because all of eris clothing is the same; standard issue jumpsuits with short sleeves and legs that stop just below the knee. When e leaves eris room, e realizes that e will be very early for the meeting because the hallway leading to the large room for hygiene is not busy with the administrators of the Hall of Orphans getting ready for their day. E takes his time washing up and then e tidies up Falstraq’s office before e arrives. The office has a desk with many levels connected by a snaking platform that seems to balance them all very nimbly. Daecoo cleans each surface and then the ball that Falstraq rests on behind the desk.

E sits on the ball across from the desk and crosses eris legs to get comfortable.

“You had the dream again?” Deacoo hears from behind erim. E has been sitting in the closed room and the door hadn’t opened since he closed it. “Are you encouraged?”

“It can only mean one thing. I do not have flippant dreams, they are all cleverly designed to give me insights during my waking life. And my dreams are showing me the slow but steady pace at which our social philosophy is taking hold. They are coming to it one at a time. I love that dream.”

“You are always very happy when you have it. I hope the progress is fast enough. Before more of your social brethren meet the fate of Suun and Seel. Are you all doing enough?”

“We do what we can, old friend.”

“With my help you could take control of everything by force…”

“But then there would be no way to establish a peaceful society. A society built on war will always venerate it; war as a symbol of freedom or revolution makes war a noble gesture and it cannot be for a stable society. Even the mainstreamers know this and it is why there is no Druinte army, not an official one anyway. You have been tempting me with power for years and I only ever accept your wise counsel. Why are you so persistent?”

“Because I am impressed by you. I have never heard tell of stuff world beings opting for wisdoms in lieu of the amazing gifts that I can bestow upon you. You could master the repulsive force, you could access the Quinspace, the possibilities are endless. I eagerly offer because your refusal is proof of your worthiness for gifts I offer. I would become skeptical of you if you accepted without a good reason.”

“Farone, you have been a constant companion and you help me to sort the vast knowledge that I encounter, I am appreciative of that. I hope that you will always be there.”

“I do have a mission Daecoo. It is of no real importance to you, you will not live the long span of time to see the desired results of your actions today, but you are my mission Daecoo. And you are the easiest assignment in all the universe. I am lucky to stand behind you.”

Farone is a Quinspace, rhino-type being who takes the form of a woman with the head of a lion and the horn of the rhino. She was born on the Quinspace Druont during the ferrel period of Druinte history, when durine roamed the wilderness in the infancy of the race. She was place there by her mother and told that one day the Druinte would become the smartest civilizations in the universe and then they would lose the will to live. Farone’s mother told her that she would have to keep them alive and that the few would have to teach the many or they were all doomed. Farone understood her mission to be that she would have to care for the A-space beings of the planet and she grew to love them like children. And over their long history, her mother’s words made sense as they came true before her eyes. She knew that she had to help the social Druintes, they were the few who would help the many, but Druintes are not prone to accepting unsolicited help that could further complicate the matter at hand. Early Druintes could perceive Quinspace, but they largely ignored it because it seemed like a benign phenomenon that did not directly impact their every day. But Daecoo had welcomed her companionship, he had even experienced the power she could give him, but he refused to wield them , and instead they had rousing conversation.

Just then, the door of Falstraq’s office opens and Daecoo turns with a smile.

“It is what we all need,” e says.

“Each other,” Falstraq says with a smile.
