Nebuchad departs his body regularly.
He is gone again.
It appears to Dr. Eakran that Nebuchad’s brainstem has been altered. Eakran noticed the bump at the spot where the head meets the neck on others who had died after consuming his drug, and autopsies of their bodies revealed that the brain stems were larger than normal. Eakran believes that this increased brain stem matter altered the consciousness of the humans, leaving their bodies susceptible to manipulation. Nebuchad is still susceptible to manipulation, Eakran can control Nebuchad’s motor function with verbal commands when he is in a bull spell, but it is as though his consciousness, the man known as Nebuchad, leaves his body altogether and the body is left as an empty vessel that defaults to the physical activity that appears as though he is grazing like a bull. And occasionally Nebuchad returns, or Eakran thinks that maybe others occupy the body and they seem to know more than any human Eakran has encountered.
This is an amplification of a similar drug that Druintes on the planet Druont use to facilitate intimacies that are taboo among mainstream populations. Eakran recreated the drug from memory, from a dream to be exact, because he did not have access to the original on Earth. He did not imagine that he could create an exact replica of the drug that facilitated empathy between the notoriously cold and antisocial Druintes. The drug worked on interested Druintes who hoped to procreate with another rather than produce offspring on their own as Druintes commonly do; two parent procreation is rare in the mainstream population and usually happens between Druintes who do not believe themselves adequate to produce an iteration, or offspring, that will further their accomplishments after their death.
Humans and Druintes are different, and Eakran is envious of Nebuchad’s experience. If he can find a cure, Eakran would like to experience his drug for himself, maybe the experience will reveal something new to him.
Eakran sits with Nebuchad and he waits for him to return with new words.
