The PRL Event: Darker Resurrection 21
The State of Disembodied Spirits
In this twelfth issue of the adventures of the brave Chimutengwende, Wendy’s story comes to a pause, with the promise of so much more to come.
The Brave Chimutengewende
Wendy is most excited to be reunited with her relatives. Great uncle has been there for her, but she missed Anesuishe most of all. Anesuishe was the first spirit that she encountered who explained herself as such and made Wendy realize that she was not fully aware of the world that she lived in and in her own powers and strengths. Ane, as Wendy sometimes called the woman who was an ancestor from a distant past who had been designated by her other relatives to organize the efforts and powers of the ancestors for their family, had arrived at a time when Wendy needed her the most. She was skeptical of everyone that she previously believed cared for her, and she was mostly alone in her home that she had managed to buy for herself. She stopped engaging the world for the most part, and then Ane appeared with a mission. It changed everything for Wendy and it was exactly what she needed.
Since Wendy and Ane have worked together, Wendy has met other deceased relatives and they have given her the confidence to re-engage the life that she had been fed up with. She got a significant promotion at work and she managed to work closely with an ex, even though the two had yet to discuss their desires for a future together. That was going well, too, and Ane has only been a boon to her life.
There is a mystery that Wendy will need to unravel when it becomes apparent to her, the erasure of her ancestor Isheanesu. But how can she miss something that she cannot remember?
Today, Wendy smiles her way into the IBF and she is happy to sit with Hansberry’s patients in the lab they share. Helen has been slowly regaining her ability to communicate verbally and she is more responsive to Wendy than ever. Wendy also maintains a report with the medium in the basement, Aile. Aile is not as content as Wendy has been lately and today, as she speaks through her sister Stephanie, she raises concerns about the state of the spirit world.
“If I could confirm it,” Steph-aile says, “then I would, but something is very wrong.”
“Everything is good, and we can figure out a plan to take on Dr. Eakran…”
“This is not about Eakran!” Steph-aile says, “something is wrong though. The spirits… they’re not all here.”
“All of your relatives in the afterlife are where they’re supposed to be Aile,” Wendy says and then she has to end the conversation. “My boss is coming, I’m sorry but I have to get back to work.”
“Don’t ignore this, Wendy,” Steph-aile says as she disappears.
Dr. Hansberry enters the lab and Wendy smiles at her. She looks slightly nervous.
“Everything OK?” Wendy asks.
“Yes,” Hansberry struggles and then she sits next to Wendy. “It’s good to have you here. I love working with you. I love you.” She puts a hand on Wendy’s. “I think we can be something, Wen. I want you to be my girlfriend.”
It’s not professional in the strictest sense, but it does feel right and Wendy wraps her arms around Hansberry, and then kisses her lovingly.
“Let’s give it a shot.”
