The PRL Event: Darker Resurrection 12

He can’t go back, there is just a new status quo now. The balance will be restored soon enough, it was designed for equilibrium and it will find it, the question is, how will these compensations effect the existence that we know?

“I don’t know,” Alia says aloud. She sits on the front passenger’s seat as Wendy drives, headed to the location that Alia had received from Eakran’s bodyguard.

“Who said that?” Wendy asks. She knows that Alia had been responding to the female voice that sounded like it came from inside of their car, but it doesn’t belong to anyone inside.

“If that is true, then why am I here?” John, Alia’s strange new faux brother asks.

It is an observation. You all race away from the source of your problems, yet you draw ever closer to it. This whole endeavor is a riddle. Supposing that you all are successful and return the soul that was resurrected, the balance could have already changed so much that it may not even want him. You could be in a race to murder a man lucky enough to be granted a second chance.

“For real,” Yuri says next to John in the backseat, “where the fuck is that voice coming from?”

“So am I being recalled, is that what this is?” John asks.

I am not who you think I am Pomp, I am merely enjoying the drama, the will-they won’t-they, the race against the clock. The first souls drawn to the balance since the resurrection should be arriving there in a time that correlates to three Earth days. Once they hit, those souls will be gone forever, inaccessible to your realm, to your mediums.

“Is that where Ishe and Ane are?” Wendy asks in a panic. “Am I going to lose them?”

“Not if we send the soul back as fast as we can,” John says resolutely. “Apparently we have three days. We should make them count.”

Wendy drives with more purpose, she is not ready to say goodbye to her ancestors so soon after meeting them.

“This is not right, Anesu,” Great uncle says to Wendy. He sits next to Alia in the front seat and only Wendy can see and hear him. “This voice is menacing, it is taunting you. You must calm down, do not let it drive you and your friends to panic and destruction.”

I hope you all fail, these ghosts are so annoying. This suck from the balance should clear out the realms a bit. But carry on, I only wanted to start the countdown for you all. Good luck!

“John what was that?” Alia looks back at the man who had come from nowhere and recruited Alia in his efforts to retrieve a soul at the behest of natural laws that even he does not fully understand.

“It’s the voice,” John says, obviously annoyed, “I don’t know. But we should probably listen to it right?  We all heard it and it seems to understand our current predicament. I hope you all are understanding that what we are dealing with is very serious stuff. We have an important job to do. This alien guy better be helpful or Wendy may never see her old uncle and her Asian cousin again.”

“You can see Stephanie and my uncle?” Wendy is surprised, John hadn’t acknowledged them before.

“Yes, I am here hunting a spirit after all, I would be useless if I couldn’t see spirits in this realm.”

Wendy is annoyed by his tone and Alia notices.

“Ok, guys, let’s get to Georgia so we can regroup and make a plan with Gertrude and Vita. I think I should talk to Eakran alone, me and Yuri, but we can figure it out. Let’s not annoy each other until then. How long Wendy?”

“We can stop when the sun’s up,” Wendy says. “That should be soon enough.”
