Issue 5, Vol. III – July 23, 2017 (CZS Event Continued)

Time to Read:

4–6 minutes

There is a device that contains details of all time and existence from the start and as it marches forward. This device is a God Machine; its machinations are wondrous to all sentient beings of the universe, or it would be if its existence was widely known. These are the tales from the Aeternus.

The PRL Crossover event of the summer continues, and our heroes are doing their best to stand in the way of a plot to alter humanity forever. We won’t give too much preamble because there’s a lot of story for you to enjoy. So do that, dear readers, enjoy, and we will see you next week (or later this week) for the exciting conclusion of the CZS Event!

This week:

Solse has a blog! His English is great, by the way. I know I wouldn’t be able to tell that a being of Bromeran wrote it.

Romances and Mazes: “There is a discussion of gender roles that we are ignoring that I will quickly pay lip service to because I think the discussion is mostly irrelevant, but I’d like to be thorough. Some might say that your struggle with this man is antifeminist. That you have proven yourself to be a capable woman, now brought low by your desire for validation from a man who is otherwise preoccupied. I don’t think your situation makes you any less powerful and that antifeminist argument presumes that beings who seek out companionship are by definition weakening themselves.”

CZS Chapter 2 – Into the Light

The actions of a man can confound an outside observer. Dr. Roy Worthington is brilliant, but it seems that he is also mad. And no one is safe from his madness.

Eakran’s Experiments (One-Shots): “Of course this breakthrough astounded Worthington and the implications gave him hope for his own goals. His tinkering with the super bacteria was mostly theoretical experimentation; he knew that it would not produce the results that he wanted most, namely to infect a population with a virulent disease that could alter their behavior in a significant enough way to make them more effectual and less emotional.”

– – –

Adam Altman doesn’t seem to have any special superpowers, but that won’t stop him from standing up to big monsters.

Police Force (Limited Series):  “…Adam never doubts his chosen profession. Not even when it seemed that there were members of his department of state police who were intentionally looking the other way while something nefarious grew and spread right under their noses. Adam would not look the other way. And he wouldn’t let bad people get away with despicable things.”

Ivan is home again, dealing with a family that does not accept him. But he doesn’t have time to skulk. The Alia beckons.

Love as Power (Diode Bk. 1): “In a lot of ways, it made it easier for Ivan to leave. His mother and some of his younger siblings were upset to see him thrown out of the home that he had helped to stabilize, a home he had helped to build. His parents had depended on him, but it seems that they had never wanted him to have a life for himself. And even though it is hard, it is the best thing for him to leave, this time, with no intention of returning.”

– – –

Kevin is home too, and while Ivan races off to assist the Alia, he realizes that there is a new family that needs him.

Amazing Elroy (Amazing Elroy, The Magician Bk. 2): “Kevin did really want to see his family. He wondered what his sister, mother and father looked like, and he wanted to know that they were happy and safe. He hoped that his time with the CIA had not had any affect on the simple life they enjoyed so much. His family home is not far from Durham, and he drove the couple hours or so without any music from his radio. He doesn’t need anything but the memories of his old life. He wanted to do his best to remember the boy that he was so that he could pretend to be that person when he was with them.”

Maybe I feel sorry for this guy now. Maybe there is such thing as enough punishment. Or maybe torture is hard to witness, no matter the sufferer.

A Portrait of the Artist as a Black Man: “Dae thought that the self reflective nature of incarceration was the best part of the entire experience. He had as much time as he could ever need to think back on the life that he had lived and the man that he was, but since his realization that he wanted to be a new person, Dae had used self reflection as an opportunity to build a new self. In order to build this new self, Dae opened himself up to ideas that he had turned his nose up at in the past. He reads a lot and it is an escape from the horrors of incarceration when he is able to lose himself in a narrative, but Dae is hoping to find himself in the books that the reads.”
