Apparently, I just took the week off, which honestly wasn’t the plan, but here we are. Look for Issue 5 tomorrow and, hey, chins up out there folks. The news is terribly depressing, but don’t let it get you down. If you get sad, then the terrorists win and we don’t want that.
I did want to muse on the importance of engaging in political discussion. With so much going on, social media is full of everyone’s take on things and I can’t help but wonder the point that serves. I definitely weighed in, but after some hesitation, and I was hesitant because, honestly, what is the point? Most everyone that I am friends with on social media had already expressed feelings that I agreed with, and those that didn’t were locked in deep discussions about it with someone else already. Why pile on? And why use that space for that debate anyway? Is it actually possible to change someone’s mind on social media? Is it possible to change someone’s mind at all? I generally adhere to the principle of keeping my opinions to myself unless they are solicited, because the last thing I want is someone forcing their opinions on me that I don’t ask for; its the do unto others philosophy. So posting opinions in a public space could be viewed as unsolicited opinions if I happen to be perusing facebook for something other than outrage over race in America. Maybe that means I should just keep my opinions off facebook to ensure that I’m not violating my own principle.
Anyway, come back tomorrow for the continuations of your favorites and I can’t say this more sincerely, please be safe out there.
