Issue 3, Vol. II – June 20, 2016

Time to Read:

3–5 minutes

It’s me, the mercurial editor of the PRL Serials here to present the continuation, and eventual conclusion, of Volume II. I won’t bore you all with apologies, they’re so 2015 anyway, and we’re just going to forge ahead. It’s been an interesting time for me, and here at the PRL, and I hope we can channel that into some interesting stories that will bring you back each week. Be sure to review Issues 1 and 2 before diving in, and check out those Interim Shorts over on the Google+ page.

I’d be remiss not to pay my respects to the victims in Orlando, FL and we at the PRL send our sympathies to the families. In our last issue I discussed the tragedy in Charleston, SC and sadly, since that time there have been tragedies in Paris, France; San Bernardino, CA; and a slew of fatalities in cities all over the world. It’s a sad time to be alive for sure and I hope that you, dear reader, won’t allow yourself to be bogged down by fear and dread. The best way to combat the darkness is with the light, which I admit is much easier said than done, but for every dark actor seeking to make the world a gloomy and terrifying place, we need five conduits of light reminding others that the world doesn’t have to be ruled by sadness and hatred. The stories we present here feature violence and death, and we sincerely hope that it isn’t viewed as a glorification. Our stories seek to show the root of that evil and the devastation that it causes. Hopefully our stories deter violence rather than stoke it

But here it is, what you’ve waited so patiently for. Please enjoy and meet us here next week for the exciting continuation of the PRL Vol. II.

This week:

Is Maria done for? What exactly is the Aliarum? Am I teasing things that won’t be answered in this issue? Keep reading to find out.

Made in America (Series 1): “‘You planning to shoot someone with that weapon?’ Maria asks, hiding any nerves she may feel. Wendy is so nervous that she is noticeably shaking.”

Maybe we are all running on a hamster wheel, doomed to circle back to our starting place again and again. Kevin finds himself in familiar trouble, but this time he gets a little help from a new friend.

The Magician (Amazing Elroy, The Magician Bk. 1):There are groups of people staring at him on the sidewalks, cars are stopped in the street and people stand in their open doors. It’s one of his worst fears, revealing his abilities before a crowd of people, and he doesn’t want to deal with what usually comes next, the part where using his abilities leads to unintended consequences.”

Yuri James is everything I want to be, except for the under investigation part. But man is he cool under pressure. And Detective Young seems to always be one step behind.

Old Man Young and the Bronx Avenger: “Yuri internalized the harsh words from his uncle, though he embraced the difference inherited from his father to attract girls who thought his light skin handsome. But he would follow the example of his uncle to become more of a man than his father had been able to become.”

The saga continues as the stalwart Rebel continues his quest to prove once and for all that…

V.I.V is Real: “I did finally read the first issue of This and Other Things regarding the murder of Yusef Hassan. I was surprised to find that an old teacher of mine, Mr. Jackson Smith, was quoted in the issue.”

The Legacy Series event of the summer continues with the end of the first story arch. This guy is something else. I don’t know if I should be rooting for him or rooting for someone to slap him in the mouth. I hope someone slaps him in the mouth though.

The Black Side of Paradise: “‘I just don’t belong there. She doesn’t want me there.’ Bradford said to Ms. Davis the day she asked him about his acrimonious relationship with his mother.”

The exciting conclusion of the electrifying one-shot that started in Issue 2, starring the MVP of Volume II.

Diode (One-Shots): “Ivan felt responsible for helping to nudge the old man’s soul toward tranquility because even though he wasn’t sure what that tranquility could possibly be, he knew that the old man had a soul that was most likely very confused and scared, detached from its body.”
