“What about love?” the other he asks as the two get into a car that the other he drives.

“What about it? Love is whatever you need it to be. If you need something grand and essential, there’s love. If you need the root of your evils, there’s love. If you need a reason to be there’s love.” he says. “Because it is nothing, but everything, then it is just a figment of our imagination.”

The other he asks, “Why do so many people swear by it? Why are so many people blissfully happy in decades long relationships?”

“Because coupling is good,” he says, “I don’t doubt that. We evolved into dependent creatures. Love has little to do with that though. Habit or comfort are much stronger unifiers.”

“Some would say those things are love.” the other he says.

“Then why do you need love when you can have the other things?” he asks. “Obviously love is useless.”
