Earthling technology is not primitive, but it is generations behind other sentient populations in the universe. Much of the technology of other sentient life forms in the universe would be magical to human beings because they are a relatively young species compared to others. Earthlings are far away from other sentient life as well and even though other sentient beings in the universe have developed the capability to travel the long distance, the trip is a significant investment of time and resources without the aid of a wormhole. As such, contact between Earthlings and other planets has been limited, if not nonexistent.
Based on the myths and stories of Earth, it would seem that magic is abundant, but much of the magic on Earth is not trusted or believed and goes unacknowledged or explained away as some other phenomenon. There are many rituals on Earth, much of them associated with the various religions that explain and define Earthling purpose, that Earthlings have enacted for years unaware that they can grant access to the very magic that AEther itself created with it stirred the Earth to life so many years ago. Mysticism, as it is commonly referred, has been vilified in the most prevalent religions and is most commonly associated with evil or sinister intentions. But in the most primitive and least disturbed populations of Earthlings, there are those who tap the magic of the Earth regularly to do truly wonderful things for those around them. Access to the phenomenal magic of the Earth is not uncommon, but many Earthlings treat those with great gifts as pariahs to be feared and punished. The beings of Earth value conformity even if they boast appreciation and respect for difference.
