I love that the Simpsons are always on now, and I’m thankful for my DVR so that I can still watch it on days when it isn’t on. Aside from the Simpsons, I’ve been watching the Roosevelts which honestly is your standard history documentary and if you wouldn’t read the book, then you probably won’t enjoy it, but you should still check it out if only for a few minutes. Sure its hero worship, which isn’t the greatest thing, but the history of America is one of the greatest stories ever told and if you like good TV then there’s plenty of the good stuff; charismatic leads who throw themselves into the fire to uphold lofty ideals, a Joseph Conrad-esque journey into the mysterious and dangerous Amazon jungle, and there’s even an industrious man in a wheel chair who overcomes impossible odds to inspire a country in its dark age–the definition of epic. So check it out, and to the good folks at PBS, that was my charitable contribution for the year (I swear to give again as often as I can).
Wes wanted me to mention that he highly recommends Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel, The Devil in Silver, since Halloween is just around the corner. LaValle is one of my personal favorites, he is one of the writers that inspires me to do it because he knows how to tell a story (slapboxing with jesus is one of my favorite short story collections). And speaking of Halloween, PRL Serials will feature some special horror issues all October long, stories inspired by the eerie works of HP Lovecraft and Robert Chambers. We’ll do a tribute to Chamber’s offbeat, strange fiction classic, The King in Yellow, and feature the the PRL Legacy Series, Silas in Hell, Max’s tribute to the self published works of the Reverend Dr. Lloyd Wright of Ladoga.
But before all that, there’s still Issue 12. Come back next week for the exciting conclusion of It Exists, Stone Hand (leaders and Leadership), and Wes’s Superman Lover, and one last story from Max in Ladoga. There’s even some new stuff; a new Old Man Young One-Shot and Max presents Issue 1 of Silas in Hell. So get ready for the bittersweet ending and we’ll see you back here Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Enjoy the weekend; personally, I’m going to try to play some tennis.
